Xenon Headlights/Turn Signals

I have an '04 Z4 and my passenger side front turn signal bulb went out. I was getting my throttle body replaced at my indy so I asked him to go ahead and replace it while I'm here. He comes back and tells me that it's not the bulb, it's the headlight housing. BMW integrated the turn signal into the Xenon housing. The wire is burned out and it will set me back $2,000 but I can get a deal on both for only $3,899. Has anyone heard of this, or better yet know of a cheaper fix? Thank you in advance.

There are two indicator bulbs in the headlight. The outer one is accessible and a new wire could be soldered in. The second however is deep in the housing and would be a bugger to get to and repair.

That said I've never come across this and how it could burn the wiring out before the bulb would be surprising. Perhaps its had water ingress and been corroding or shorting out?

Worst case i'd be keeping an eye on the second hand market for a replacement. I defo wouldn't be replacing both units.

I've got Xenon's and I've had the bulbs out before. Why would you need a new headlight housing?

Yeah, I think that I'm going to look for a second hand housing. My indy says this is a really common issue for these cars. I need a whole new unit due to the fact that the wires get brittle and eventually break. Thank you two.

I'd seek a second opinion anyway. I did xenon projectors upgrade replacement on mine and didn't notice any wire breaking habit in there.

I've had a few headlights and the wiring insulation does fail on some. No idea why. Perhaps contamination when changing bulbs? Oil/grease/etc. On the few lights I've seen this happen, its on the bulb connector end. Normally the H7 main/low beam. So if you needed you could re-wire it partially as a fix. Not seen it affect the indicators/turn signals.
