xenon headlight question

I just bought a 2006 white 3.0, a CPO car. Per the dealer, the outer headlamps are bi-xenon, which are high and low beams. Mine work like that. On the 2 inner lamps, all I get are angel eyes, as running lights and with either high or low beams. I would think the inners would also function as high beams. What is the correct way these are to work?????? Are the headlights supposed to move or adjust when first turned on, as in self leveling???? tHANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS.

In the US, the two inner "lights" are just placeholders. Yeah, I don't know why the heck they did that. On my 03 325Ci, the inner lights were the daytime running lights. On my Z, the DRLs are just the angel eyes. You can't even rig up the inner lights to work without changing the control module and I'm not sure you can even get hold of that here.

geezer, welcome to the forum... :driving:
Yes, the inner lights are angel eyes only and the way you described your lights is the way they are designed to work on the Z4. FYI bi-xenon or HID as they are also called do not have a high and low beam in the traditional sense. The amount of light produced by these is steady and low beam is obtained by a baffle that blocks some of the light.

To answer the second part of the question the lights go though a cycle at start up that lowers then raises them. All halogen and xenon do this. Further the xenon have self levelling controlled from sensors on the suspension that balance the beams for load. On halogen this is done by the traditional knulrled wheel on the light switch.

The inner lights from the US are odd and as said are blanks. Strangely behind the false lens is a blue disk and behind that all you would need to fit the mainbeam, but no wiring, nor and sensible way of opening the light to rig it up.

Just a point-in the US, you can't change the alignment of the halogen lights. There is no "knurled knob" in US spec cars. The only thing you can adjust is the intensity of the interior lights.
