WTD: Petrol cap attachment

I went to fill up my 2004 E85 2.5 as normal last night, undid the petrol cap as I have always done and let it go to hang down as I filled the car. On this occasion all did not go as planned, I let the cap go and it promptly fell on to the floor and rolled under the car, it seems that the piece of rubber that held the cap to the car had decided to snap. I enquired at the Stealers today and was told that I would have to buy a new cap for £22 +Vat, which is a bit excessive when all I really want is the piece of rubber to attach it I know its a long shot, but does anybody on here have the piece of rubber that they would be willing to sell??

My cap seal had perished and I had to replace the whole cap including the strap. The strap had also showed signs of cracking so I wasn't too bothered about paying that price.
I was told the fuel cap seal is an mot failure on roadsters (first I ever heard of it!).

Actually the mini has the same cap and attachment but it is sold as a separate part on the mini. Ask for part number 51177074949.

Thanks for that Angie, I have just ordered one now

Glad to have helped. Not quite sure why BMW or BMW parts departments don't advise that this part is avalible.

Does the petrol flap not have a place to put the petrol cap while you are filling up like the E89 or the Mini?
The Minis strap is broken but the Z is still in one piece but both of them get put in the place for the cap while filling.

It does, so not sure why the OP would just let it dangle.
