Huh?? Is there some kind of catch? That sounds like the 3000 dollar check I got from the bank....with little tiny letters saying it was a loan with a high interest rate. Anyways, uhm congrats and how do I get in on a contest like that?

Well I'm happy you at least won because I got this notice today...

Yes, the catch is you send your information to them and you your prize is that you get your identity stolen and your email sold to everyone in the world.

all honesty i think i could live with that. thats what fraud alert and spam filters are for

congrats again thats awesome. wish i knew about it

Come on guys, I didn't win anything - I was totally kidding. I was just posting it so someone didn't hand their info out to these people. If I won a million dollars I wouldn't be posting it - I would be swimming around my living room in a sea of Manolos and Louboutins trying to figure out if I was going to take a spin in the 599 gtb or the koenigsegg ccx first. I love you guys but let's be serious.

Congratulations Veruca!! :P

On a side note, just read about a Norwegian (A stupid one) who sent 3 million dollars in a response to these Nigeria fraud letters that also spam your inbox. He was expecting to get 50 million back. Guess what he got?? :headbang:

Just to make things worse he had collected the money making loans from his clients of his own company!!

Well, they didn't ask for a visa number and expiration date, but this was just the first contact. They usually try to whet the appetite first, and build up hopes and excitement then ask for money for some reason to "free" the funds or something.

I once got contacted by somebody claiming to be this gorgeous Russian babe, who was trying to come to the U.S. and wanted a nice man like me to help her get started. We knew it was a scam (found her pic on a scam list), so a buddy and I started writing "her" back inviting "her" to pretty clearly come to the U.S. and be a prostitute. It was hysterical, getting back her letters saying how she was starting to have real feelings for me and was sure I was a nice man and bla bla bla, after the things I said. We had a big laugh over that, and just let our replies get more and more explicit about how she would live in my basement and do my sordid and evil bidding as my slave. But strangely enough, her feelings for me just grew stonger and stronger as she outlined her trip from the boonies to Moscow to get a flight to come and see me. Naturally, she ended up stranded and alone in the big city, trying desperately to scrape up the $600 she needed to get her flight to come see me, and if I would just send her the money...

My buddy and I had a big laugh composing these rediculous letters and getting those form letter responses in return. But the really sad part of this whole deal is that the form letter responses were VERY well composed to build up some poor lonely guy's hopes and dreams, and it pisses me off that there are clearly some guys out there who would get themselves all worked up over this and even emotionally attached, just to have their dreams dashed on the rocks. I started feeling very sorry for them. Not just the $600, but the blow to thier world view.
