If the purpose is to purchase a car which you want to enjoy but won’t be putting much mileage on it, I would suggest investing into a lower mileage vehicle. Mainly due to the fact that it will hold its value better, is less likely to cause you problems and will be easier to shift come resale.
However, if the purpose is to purchase a car which you’re going to put 50,000 miles on, you’re better off saving the money and getting a higher mileage vehicle. Just make sure that it has a full service history (preferably from BMW or reputable BMW Independents) and common failure components such as water pump/thermostat and timing chain have been replaced. I’d also try and find one with less than 4 owners however that might be difficult on a convertible.
