Worthwhile extras

I was looking for a new family motor the other day and the sales guy got very animated about a deal that included Blue tooth, tinted rear glass, different alloys, leather wheel and gear knob, fog lamps, climate instead of air-con, coloured interior trim inserts and some other stuff. He was visibly shocked when I told him the only thing I might pay extra for was the fogs and that was marginal! :roll:

I’ve always been convinced that with the exception of some staples, most extras rarely get used, barely add to resale values and are usually the things that go wrong in time, what are the views on Z4 essentials, the good to have and what’s a waste of money?
 
lol.. nav is a must. 8)

personally, climate, bluetooth, nav, & enough horsepower to unroot a reasonable sized tree.
 
M seats, heated and automatic
Auto gearbox
Biggest engine outside of an M
Not dark paint
Cruise
Ipod connector

I think you will find everyone describing their own car here...... 8)
 
I don't know if it's the classics I've run until recently but I just don't get the point of stuff like the bi-sexual headlights, lamp washers, auto lights and auto dipping mirror on my 2.5 SE, I didn't buy it new but would rather upgrade the engine spec or suspension if I did. and heated seats are for Volvo drivers anyway :poke:

If you'd only got a 3.0l, you'd have had all those extras AND the better engine :roll:

In all seriousness though, I like the xenons more than halogens - loads better on the night-time twisties runs ... And like last night, when the tit with full beam on was sat behind me for a while, I love the autodimming mirror too.

I’m not diss’ing any of the kit really, how you use your car will dictate what’s properly useful, I just don’t like forking out for kit that’s more value to talk about than use. Stuff loaded on a 2nd hand car that’s had its depreciation, now that’s better and I see your 3.0 point - until it plays up, my headlamp washer popped an expensive to repair cover and jet last winter.
 
Mine has nearly every option available... and a couple of the options i could live without:

Electric folding mirrors - look cool but pointless
Electric seats - more of a pain and irritatingly slow when i want to quickly get something out of the back.
Headlamp washers - more toruble then they are worth.. only use is to spray people at lights!
Nav - maybe aslong as i could keep the screen!

Xenons and sport pack were the deal breakers when i was looking for my car.

Genuinely forgive my ignorance but what’s the advantage of a ‘stubby’ (apart from it being stubby) do I need one, or should I add it to my list of pointless options? :?

There has been several reported cases of Z4 drivers 'whipping' innocent pedestrians/cyclists/endangered animals with the standard 'tank aerial' when cornering hard. Unless you want to become part of the statistic you should get the shorter, stubby aerial. :tumbleweed:

this whipping stunt sounds impressive, very few cyclists are innocent so will give it a try to check if I need a stubby after all:evil:
 
I think there are things you need and things that will help resell, Nav for instance is a complete waste of money when buying new, however if your looking at a used it would be better to have than not, theres no denying that it helps sell your car. I agree with a previous posts that heated leather seats are an absolute must on a roadster and so is the upgraded stereo (unless you are tone deaf and hate music). Auto lights/wipers are okay but not essential as are the Xenon's (they really are so much brighter), M seats are very comfortable and its worth paying the extra on a used E85 M Sport over the SE, however for an E89 the 2.3 M Sport is the same price as the standard 3.0 and I preferred the extra 54 BHP over a few bits of M stuff.
 
when I was looking for a Z4 , I wanted all the extras , when it comes to selling it surely it will be easier to sell against a standard model. my theory anyway.

champange extended msports seats ( electirc and heated ) plus msports steering wheel and suspension, comfort pack ,piano black dash, ipod and to seperate it from the rest the ALPINA's :D
