No not mine, but our 15 year old granddaughters, she has just had her first day of work experience and she chose an HS2 construction site within a few miles from here (and there are plenty of them!). Having spent most of my life on various types of power station construction sites, naturally I am chuffed to bits. From what I gathered H&S rules and it's early days to say whether anything could develop, but I hope so.
Anyone ever had their kids follow the came career pattern?

Yup,
My No2 son joined the RAF doing aircraft engines and airframes, same as me. I watched his passing out parade on the same parade square I did mine on 33 years before. Then he went to RAF Marham, different Squadron number but on the same dispersal, on exactly the same Tornado airframes I worked on. His first detachment was to Bodo in Norway.......... same as mine.
Then he moved on and ended up at Coningsby, working on Typhoons.
It's great when you finally, after all those years of grumpy teens, have something in common to talk about.

I always made the wrong choices, so I’m glad my kids have done their own thing. They’ll make the wrong choices too, but they will learn from them.

I don't think my daughter is going to be a 'fridge engineer TBH.
She is going to study (?) Sociology (whatever that is) at Uni in September so God knows.

My Dad was a 'fridge engineer, so I followed in his footsteps, but purely by chance. I studied to be an accountant for three years first, but it was sooooo boring.

Freezer a jolly good fellow.

enuff_zed what a remarkable coincidence! you must be very proud.
I followed my old man into engineering in tea/coffee/cotton machinery in Uganda to me in power station construction and my son professional golf. The bug for travel seems to have been passed on to him.

My two daughters have both followed me into software and both have great careers in the data analysis departments in separate hospitals.

At the age of eight, the oldest was writing Excel spreadsheets for her school teacher, who couldn't do it!

The end of her week of work experience and to be honest I'm disappointed it hasn't made the experience more interesting. She seems to have spent most of the time attending meetings and writing account of her project. Only one person explained the work of a heavy load shifter but no explanation of deisgn, progress and planning, B of Q's, H&S, tooling and plant used etc. Some photos is all she has to remember the week by.
We used to more for visitors in a day visit than she was given and the construction site is one of major importance in the HS2 programme comprising tunnels, bridges, cutting and embankments etc

My daughter can recognise bones on an xray and knows that "red sauce comes out" when she cuts herself. She still needs to learn how to use a drill and a saw, and where the really big hammers are kept, but then she'll know as much as I do. She's 3 1/2, so there's still plenty of time.
As for my son, his favourite word is "car-car", so he's destined for great things :driving:
