Damm dodgy bonnet switch :headbang:
afternoon spent in country pub with friends turned into evening 8)
lost count on the vino so mrs w drove home but didn't fancy garaging my zed so only the 2nd time its been out all night & the same happened last time .
always nice to see it but not with lights flashing & alarm going off mid slumber :x
why after 6 hours though ?

Change in temperature, I would suggest, with bonnet moving away from sensor. Happened to me earlier in the summer on my BMW Series 1, dashboard was indicating my bonnet was open when driving, then alarm started to go off overnight and ran my battery down. Solved by sticking small pad to underside of bonnet to make better contact with the bonnet sensor plus liberal dosing of lubricant on the sensor. It's been fine since. :wink:
 
In our experience that problem seems to be completely random. When guiseley's first went wrong it was only when I locked the car. If he did it it was fine. There is something in the temperature drop though, his seemed fine if alarmed late evening, but not if alarmed in the afternoon. It went off a couple of times at work too, about 3 hours after I had parked it, but not every day. Weird.
 
Metal contracts as it cools, perhaps increasing the gap and allowing the switch to contact.
However that would suggest that throughout winter it will always be 'open' does the factory alarm give any sort of indication when arming that a door, boot or bonnet is open?

The advice on the Series 1 forum is that it rarely is the sensor that fails. It may be dirty and just needs lubricating. :wink:

Had a girlfriend once who often had this problem at 3.15 in the morning :|
