Wiring in door speakers on a 6 speaker system?

Hi All,

Just wondering if I change the door harnesses that are currently installed, and switched them for the harnesses that are used in the 10 speaker system, would that enable the door speakers to work, or would I need to add something else - amp etc?
Asking as I managed to get a set of 10 speaker door harnesses as the guy didn't want them and just figured it would be a neater fix than wiring the door speakers to the tweeters.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I guess that would give you an extra cable to the mids, but apart from that, what else would you gain? You currently have no speakers in the door (just a blanking plate) so if the aim is to be adding speakers, then that just involves fitting the items and running a cable through the existing door interconnecting rubber tube. I don't know if the current loom has the speaker cable for the mids on the car body side, so it could all be a waste of energy. I'd just run a new cable through the door. I bought an underfloor oxygen free hifi cable which seems to be of very good quality and has the advantage of being slim enough to fit in the available space in the door connection:

I was more thinking that it would hopefully be a plug n play but I’m not sure if it would be that simple on the basic 6 speaker system head unit?

Yes, not sure. I don't think I saw extra wires on the car body interior side.

Hi
Please tell where you connected on the rear of the radio. Did you break into the mid range units in the rear cabin wires? I've fitted two mid range speakers in the door and at the next stage of wiring and am interested in your solution. Also where did you get the wire you describe from?

Hi matey. I just spliced the new door speakers into the wiring to the door tweeters.

When you say 'spliced' did you use scotchlocks, solder or other connectors please. What was the resulting sound like?

Hiya. I just used splice blocks (little blue plastic things with what looks like a metal W piece inside them)
For the cost of a couple of BMW 4ā€ speakers and an hour to fit them, I’m genuinely happy with the improvement.

Fab, they're called scotchlocks, I've had the speakers installed for sometime now, I think I'll get on and wire upšŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Hi
Just to let you know, I cut the wiring I found to the door mid range speakers, so as to us the connectors. Then used scotchloks to the tweeter wires and it works. Great improvement, but I haven't found the perfect balance and tone yet!!
Thanks for the info.
George
