Wiring access from cabin to boot

Has anyone any photo's or instructions on how to get wiring from the cabin into the boot area.
Having just purchased a new Z4 28i with basic hifi, i'm looking to add the blaupunkt amp in the boot and drive the speakers better. (possibly upgrade the speakers as well.)

I wondered if anyone knew the easy route into the boot area without removing loads of interior trim in the cabin. Probably from the passenger side of the car as I understand the power cables might run on the driver's side.

Any photos would help greatly. I've searched the forum and found some boot interior ones which give me an idea but nothing from the cabin side as yet.

I don't have an E89, but an E86. This is how I did it, I hope this helps

Thanks Guys. I've seen the write up you linked to EdP. It does give me some ideas but wondered if anyone had any views from the cabin side of things.

Guess i'll just have to give it a go and take some photos while I do it.

Cheers

In the cabin it is quite easy...

When the plastic cover below the radio is removed, you can access the screws of the radio unit. If both are removed you can route your wiring downwards to the center console.

You can pull the edges of the center console a littlebit so the wire get some extra space between the console and carpet. From there on you can clamp the wiring under the edges of the console to reach the black cover.

The black cover (4) can easely be pulled of.

From there on you can stick a stiff wire under the carpet to enter the trunk area.

In the trunk remove the trunk partition trim panel (20 or 21).

The wire should enter the trunk like this.

Result! I've managed to get the harness through from the front to the boot today.

Between the boot and the cabin are two channels on the extreme corners of the boot. These are used for the wiring harness that run around the car. They are visible between the roof mechanism and the side of theboot.

On my car the passenger side had more space, so I took off the trim panels behind the seat and managed to pass the wires through. I have taken some photos so will try and get them up for others to how I did it.

Tomorrow I will be doing the rest of the work to get the amp working. I'm upgrading the speakers to the top hifi ones so that they are OEM and a perfect fit. Just based on the specs they should be much better sound quality, especially when powered with an amp.

More info to come soon.

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Yes i've replaced the front speakers with Top Hifi ones from BMW - Woofers, MIds and Tweeters.

Total cost was £244 including delivery from Cotswold BMW.

If I can get my arse in gear I will post a how to about it. Got the photos but need to do the write up and host the pics.
