Wiper problem not motor

Hi All,
The wipers have not been parking properly and working intermittently so when I read the thread about the excess grease in the motor I thought I had cracked it :D however when I got my motor off and stripped down there was no excess grease inside. I replaced everything and put the wipers back on the splines at the correct parked position. The wipers now worked ok apart from position 1 = intermittent wipe correctly, position 2 which should be constant wipe was still intermittent wipe and position 3 is normal speed wipe not high speed. You still with me :D So I bought a replacement relay from the stealers, removed the old blue one and replaced it with a shiney new black one, symptoms did not change :roll:

So do you think it is a faulty stalk or faulty motor?

Hi Tom

Did you ever find out what was causing your wiper problem and how to fix it? Reason I ask is that I've exactly the same strange symptoms. I've tried degreasing of the wiper motor but it's made no difference. Now considering whether to go for a relay change or a new wiper stalk ...

Not sure Tom, will see your post as this thread is 3 yrs old and he hasn't logged in since October 2012!

Not come across this problem, but too me sounds more likely to be the stalk.
 
Bear in mind that the wipers behave differently when the the car is stationary, at least they do on my 2003 2.2. Fast speed becomes normal speed, and normal speed becomes intermittent speed if you're not moving. I thought something was broken until I figured this out.
 
:thumbsup: Good point about the age of the post .... but thanks very much to stewilko for the tip about the wipers behaving differently when not in motion! Maybe cleaning the grease out of the motor has sorted out the random behaviour of the wipers that my wife reported when she got home yesterday .... I'll report back if problems persist.
