Wiper Mayhem!!

On the day we have torrential rainfall, I have the oddest wiper behaviour.

Initially, the wiper stalk operated normally, but, the wipers would park 2-3 inches above the bottom windscreen line.

After 10 minutes, the wiper stalk had a mind of its own; they'd swipe a random number of times, then stop halfway through a cycle. Turning them on/off had no effect, they had a mind of their own and the stalk did absolutely nothing. Turning the engine off, the wipers kept doing their thing, even with the key out.

Sounds like a common problem. Muck on the plate at the base of the wiper. I'll find a link for you.

Folks have also had issues with the rain sensors.

The initial problem was probably the base plates. The more sinister problem, where the wipers had a life of their own, has to be something else; even with the stalk in the "off" position, the wipers will still activating, even when the engine was off and the keys were out!!

Check with a code reader. Look for any mention of k-bus issues. I had one a while back that did something similar as well as only allowing you to close the windows with the doors open!
Turned out to be one of the modules on the k-bus corrupting everything.

The wiper parking issue is most likely grease contamination on the wiper gearbox, take the whole lot out and take the back of the wiper gearbox off to reveal the contact plate, clean all the grease off it then reassemble it. Wipers should park correctly once you have put the arms back on in the correct place.
