Winter tyres without changing rims?

Currently have the standard M Sport staggered setup on my zed.

If I wanted to get winter tyres fitted to the same 18" rims do I need to retain the staggered setup or can I go square?

What sort of widths/profiles should I be looking for? Presumably there is a more limited choice of sizes in winter tyres for a given rim size?

Thanks could I go narrower than that or would that give me issues with the rear wheels?

You could go 235 40 rear 225 40 front but 225 whilst will fit will be a stretch & not protect the wheel rim very much :?

Not sure if you've made a purchase yet James but after much studying of what's on offer i ordered a set of Hankook I Cept Evo2's yesterday from Tyreleader
Going on our C Class estate but wheels are the same stagger of 8j & 8.5j
225 45 18 fronts / 245 40 18 rears @ total £334 delivered
