winter tyre load rating H for 3.0 SI

I have ordered some nokian WR A3 225 40 R 18 with H rating by mistake..130 MPH
Does this throw up insurance implications?
I will try and get them changed to V rating.
 
Why should it? The max speed limit in UK is 70mph, so I don't see how the insurance companies could object to you using tyres that are rated well in excess of that!

Your tyres need to match the specification of the car, the insurance company will refuse to honour the policy and it will fail an MoT making it un-roadworthy.

Not on the Isle of Man it isn't, and you could feasibly be planning to do a winter driving trip there and want to try the TT course at full throttle :P
 
So V rating of 149 mph ( for winter tyre)will still fail an mot and be an insurance problem...that sucks.
The BMW recommended winter wheel size on the z4 is 17" I seem to recall with same profile tyres all round.
Its seems like an insurance mine field as I was thinking of using narrower rear wheel for winter too.

The only way to find out for sure is to ask your insurance company - just say that you're *thinking* of buying some winter rubber and want to know their policy regarding speed ratings
 
as winter tyres are generally rated at lower speeds there is normally some wriggle room

Swiftcover gave me a pass on some under rated tyres.

Don't worry about it. You'll struggle to find any W ,Y or Z rated winter tyres but BMW will sell you a full set of H or V rated for a 155mph car. The speed rating has no effect on an MOT as long as the tyre is "suitable for purpose". So a properly sized winter tyre will be fine, don't try to fit a tractor tyre, they may deem it not suitable.....

As far as I can see, the tyre speed rating is not an MOT item or failure for Class 4 vehicles (i.e. cars). See MOT testers manual...

"Note: A Class 3 or 4 vehicle tyre which appears to be of inadequate size, ply or speed rating for the vehicle or its use is not a reason for rejection. However, the vehicle presenter should be informed."
