been noticing my drivers mirror vibrating alot recently, while i was out and about today i decided id have a look as soon as i got home, unfortunatly 2 minutes before i was to be at home my mirror decides it doesnt like my car anymore and throws itself on the floor at 30mph and smashes everywhere :( so i need some advise!

anyone bought a mirror glass from ebay? or know what sort of price they are from the dealers?

had similar issue on my Z4c just a few days into ownership , , the mirror itself is wafer thin attached to the moving part with glue which appeared to have become "unglued" ? i peeled the mirror back at home & applied some clear silicone before squeezing back, leaving overnight & now no more wobbliness from drivers mirror :)
think the mirrorglass itself is around £10 ?
 
Mine is loose as well! Took it to an Indy who said he fixed it and it's back wobbling!!
 
spooky ! just nipped out with daughter to pick up some ice cream's ( yeah it's sunny up north today ! )
came back down m/way & at ???mph my passenger mirror started twitching :o slowed down & tipped mirror right up so it didn't fall out.
got back & sure enough it was as the drivers side last week ???
fixed now with clear silicone applied .
wonder if its the sun melting the glue that attaches mirror to backing ? it was sunny also last sunday
 
Common fault. EBay is your friend. Replacements are a plenty. Ongoing debate about whether to glue in place or use sticky tabs. I would go for sticky tabs, but each to their own

As Adamski said, everyone has a different idea on the best way to adhere the glass. I don't like sticky tabs, I don't think the glue holds up to heat, unless you can find specific heat resistant type, the OEM material is similar, which is how we got into this trouble in the first place. They also don't conduct heat that well. I think silicone is a good solution, with proper surface prep. Others want to ensure it'll never happen again and use two part epoxy. I think that's overkill. What if you need to replace the glass in the future? You'll probably have to buy the backing plate as well, as you will not be able to separate it from the glass. Many other adhesives would probably work too.

This is mostly covered in markeg's link, but i don't recall silicone being mentioned, so I thought I'd comment on that. (could be wrong, didn't re-read it, sorry for any redundancy)
 
I had this problem, altho i seem to be the only one who has had the misfortune of the mirror glass falling out at 70+mph on the motorway. Glass then smashed on the side of my car causing a lot of paint damage. Replaced mine with these:

Cleaned up the heating pads, removed all the old glue and stuck on with heat resistant 3m pads that my dad had at work. Big 20x20cm pads so cut them to fit. Now check mine every Monday morning just to make sure.

luckily i was doing about 20mph so mine just hit the floor!

are these quite good quality? or do they look like cheap copies?
 
My driver's side glass was wobbling so I gave it a gentle pull and it came straight off in my hand, I also checked the passenger side and that did the same. They are both now stuck on with numberplate tape so they should be good for some time.
Given the hot weather I'd definitely advise members to check yours before they fall off on their own.
