Wing Mirror Glass - Fallen out !

Aaargh - giving the zed a quick wipe down with an old rag in preparation for 1st run of the year tomorrow - when the passenger side mirrir glass fell out ! caught it OK but not sure how it sticks back - is it OK to give it a good clean and use e.g. double sided number plate tape meantime ? bit concerned that once heated mirrors are on glue/tape could work loose - anyone know if it's just glued on ? ta :o

Think the heated mirrors work all the time :(

Dare I say it - superglue might work? I'm sure there have been other similar problems reported on the forum. I'm in terrible reception area so can't search from here, but a Forum search might provide the answer :thumbsup:

Mine fell out a couple o weeks ago, I used a strong double sided tape and it is stuck fast, like really stuck on there, Mine arn't heated though, can bring the tape along tomorrow if you want, will take 2 mins to stick on
 
Had one fall out on a beetle - used some araldite (and draft tape to hold it in place while it set), never fell out again. Just be careful to only glue it to the motor/heater pad
 
Cheers for speedy replies guys - I think the strong tape I've used should hold the glass meantime -my experience with other marques heated mirrors are that they generally only operate when the heated rear screen is also on - so I'll keep that off and hope !

Sad to say that the Zed's heated mirrors seem to be permanently on (or at least in my experience)

Just make sure I'm in front of you so I don't get pelted by a flying mirror! :driving:

Mirror heating is controlled by the door modules. The heating function is active as of terminal 15 (ignition lock position 2). The activation time is dependent on the outside temperature.

The general module receives the outside temperature from the IKE via the K-bus and determines a cycle time for heating operation. This time is transferred to the peripheral modules where it is carried out. Heating is no longer active at an outside temperature greater than 25 o C and it is switched on permanently at a temperature lower than -10 o C.
 
Keep an eye on it once you've stuck it back on. Usual indicator is the view starts to become blurry as it vibrates - shows the glue is separating again.

x2 works a treat and the heating is still effective at demisting. just take the heating pad off the wing mirror before gluing it back on so you can get good and accurate bond.

I wouldnt be using tape as id have concerns about how that will hold up with heating.
 
Both mine have fallen out within the last month. I had planned to use superglue but my garage uses the local windscreen repair company's bonding stuff (Cost me a £5 for the guy to buy himself a beer). Its a two pack process and it took all of 5 minutes. They said that due to the heating elements superglue will just give up the ghost where as this stuff grips like a WAG to a premiership footballer. So far so good!
