Windy Hard Top

I've just collected a hard top for my car it sounds like the passenger window is permantly open.

It's clearly not right and although we have refitted the roof the problem is still there and very noticeable from about 50 mph.

We are getting no drafts, no water ingress (so far), and shining light acros the point where the roof and screen come together is not coming through into the cabin.

The roof fits perfectly well and is flush with no high spots as such.

I've called the people who sold me the hard top and they say they never experienced anything like this.

Any thoughts?
 
Try the business card test; if you can slide a card between each surface where its supposed to be air-tight then you will experience noise.
I just bought a hardtop and ots taken me roughly a week to get it perfect- no noise, squeaks, etc.
If u pm me ur email i can supply some fitting guidelines.
I used a mountain bike innertube placed in and accross the whole windscreen first groove and together with some adjustment of the rear mounting points its now sound as a pound! Its a very cosy place to be and nice to know the soft-top will be protected over winter. :thumbsup:
 
Hi, you can adjust the windows in/out from points underneath the doors-I would give that a go if it's noisy :thumbsup:

I didnt need to adjust windows for mine but i believe the adjustment at the door bottom should be made outwards to move the windows inwards and closer to the seal.

All useful stuff. We never had a problem with the soft top so it's definitely a hard top issue and the business card has failed the passenger side Chris. I'm unable to PM you just yet being a newbie which I understand. As soon as I can I'll take up your kind offer.

My wife used to have a Z4 as a company car, but no hard top so this is all new. We are also missing the bung/cap that goes into the cut-out where the allen key locks the front end down, so any idea where to get one or how to officially describe this item then much appreciated

Firebobby fred sent me some handy documents which i'm sure will benefit you.
Would suggest the rear mounting points adjusted before you start tinkering with window position. If theres no prob with windnoise and ur softtop then this should def be ur first step.
Start by using a 5mm rawplug to set a baseline gap measurement for the sides between hardtop and flanks then adjust passenger side upwards, 1/2 turn each time. If that fails maybe drop drivers side 1mm.
Mine are 4mm passenger and 7mm driver. U wont notice the deviation sso dont worry about aesthetics.
Edit: if that fails, then ofc window posn is next step....

I had problems when I first fitted my hardtop. The wind noise was coming from the top of the windscreen near the corners at 50mph+. Seeing as I didn't have anyone to help lift the roof on and off while making adjustments, I just lived with it. By the time I took the roof off again in the Spring, the wind noise had all but disappeared.

Couldn't really say how long this took. I would guess it's got something to do with seals slowly expanding to fill the new gaps created by a different roof.
