Windscreen wiper position issue, it's not grease build-up

So I have the position issue with the wipers - going down to the correct point during the sweep then coming to rest a couple of inches above the correct position.

I have checked the motor and there was no build up of grease at all, and I gave it a good wipe anyway. The problem still exists and is getting a little worse.

If you can let me know other possible causes that would be great, thanks.

could be the motor itself.. realise you've already taken it apart and reassembled, but if you get the motor out again, and take off the other panel, you can get into the motor itself.. inside (and be very careful and slow!) is the electromagnet unit, surrounding which are three contacts that are pushed against the core by small springs... maybe these are worn very low?

As for anything else.. maybe the blades aren't providing enough "traction"? (just guessing here)...

final thoughts are maybe there's grease down further in the unit - maybe in the motor section, that's further contaminating the electrics?

i had this issue for ages! had the motor stripped and cleaned but still had the problem! turned out to be the Wiper relay! £15! and can do it yourself! its located behind the glove box!

Relay was my other thought, do you happen to know the part number and specific location? Did you buy from the stealer? Will it require removal of anything to get to the fuse?

part number for relay is 61316919113 I believe.

To get to it, follow these steps:

1: Sit in passenger seat
2: Open glove box
3: feel across top of glove box opening for two latches
4: depress two latches while lifting and lowering lid slightly to drop down glovebox
5: swear as contents of glovebox are casually spread across passenger footwell and locking wheelnut rolls nicely out of reach under the seat
6: locate fuses behind where glovebox used to be (left upper area of newly found gaping hole)
7: Relays are on the top line - should also be a fuse card nearby that will tell you exactly which relay is which

to refit:

1: look to right side of glovebox tray and find two halves of a previously connected plastic piston (one on the tray, one on the bulkhead)
2: align them so they slot inside each other
3: swear
4: claim it is not possible to realign the bloody things
5: trap finger in piston when it actually does pop inside
6: swear again
7: close glovebox fully to re-attach top latches
8: remember all your junk is now in the footwell and re-open glovebox
9: restuff junk in glove box and remark at how you ever got it all to fit
10: close glove box and feel satisified with a job well done
11: remember you lost your wheelnut under the seat
12: swear again as you realise your fingers are 5mm too short to retrieve it
13: wait 5-9 hours as you slowly move the electric seat up and forwards
14: retrieve wheel nut
15: open glovebox and watch as half the stuff falls back out
16: invent a new swear word and say it repeatedly.
17: stuff everything, including wheelnut in glovebox and slam closed.
18: forget to put passenger seat back to normal position
19: put up with complaints from SWMBO as she gets in
20: realise that nothing is straight forward with our cars.. absolutely nothing.

Thanks dude

Luckily the glove box is empty as I hate rattling noises! I have a 2003, I will double check the relay part number before ordering.

I also have a 2003.. pretty sure that's the correct number for ours ;)
