Windscreen washer reservoir

Hi gents, a normal Saturday morning when you own a German Alfa, oh wait, sorry, BMW. :)

So last night I noticed a puddle of water under the right front wheel. I inspected it, it wasn't oil, it was some kind of fluid. Started to investigate what is there, I almost at once suspected the water temperature sensor, as they want to leak and they are on that side.

So inspection started, and I just overlook that on that side is washer reservoir for the windscreen, and I noticed that it is wet, it is dripping water from the pump.

So, my question is, did someone had this problem? Maybe disable the reservoir and reseal it? I want to fix it before I buy a new.

Thanks gents!

I never had that problem, although I did have to remove the reservoir on my 2nd Z4 to clean the pump filters.

But radiator expansion tanks are known for splitting on the seams and I think the washer reservoir is made the same way. I'm not sure it would be too easy to repair one successfully. Are new ones that expensive anyway?

Good luck getting it sorted.

Hi matey!

How did you get on sorting the roof out?

If it’s coming from the washer reservoir then check the seals and o-rings? Does yours have xenons and headlight cleaning?

All the o- rings in mine had deteriorated and needed replacing so deffo worth a check

Thanks, gents for the suggestions, I have a normal washer (only windshield - not the headlights).

I think it is dripping from the pump, but I need to wait for the rain to stop to remove it, I think it is a relatively simple job, as it has connectors, rubber lines and that's it.

Do you mean that wires? Well, as any Alfa, it worked for itself just fine. The roof is working. And the time where it was a problem, we had some heat waves and temperatures over 35C, so I think, it was only too hot for Zed. :) :)

And guess what, I wasn't so wrong, the same pump is from Alfa Romeo (1990+ year models) hahahahahaha :D

That's definitely seen better days!

Hopefully Alfa charge less than BMW.

Yes, it is, the new motor is only 11 GBP, it has the same connector and shape and dimensions. But I took some time I started fixing the old one, as he works (wipers are cleaning just fine), I put a strong adhesive in the cracks, then I will put some plastic in and silicone and test it. :)

The expansion tank is under pressure though, this isn't. Never known a washer reservoir to leak, it's usually to do with headlamp washers, either the jets themselves or split hoses.

As I wait for a new pump, well I had to do something manly, to prove to myself that I can fix it. And I did! :)
So yeah, it doesn't leak anymore. First I used two-component glue for boats (waterproof) then I used the gun for plastic (I don't know how you call it) and glue it all with hot plastic. :)
