windscreen surround rubber

Been to Ridgeways Bournemouth today to enquire about replacing the seal around the front screen as it is a bit mis shapen photo to follow

how much???!!!!!!!!! £450 plus the part and VAT I think not
Can I make a claim on insurance for new screen if so will the rubber be replaced ? :D
 
its fixed in when the screen is glued into place.... the rubber is about £20.


maybe you could convince the place your insurance uses to do a screen replacement but make sure they dont use a generic one. auto glass were fine with me supplying the surround myself but if i wanted it via the insurance they would have had to phone and ask if it was ok to use oem stuff.


or have an unfortunate accident where that sledge hammer you store on a hook above your car just happens to fall off and when you take the car out of the garage a friek gust of wind blows a tile off your roof that only hits the screen :evil:
 
450+ vat is for the screen aswell, obviously.

The rubber is 20 odd quid and your insurance will pay for it. It's not in their own interest to use the pattern part one as it'll need to be removed again when it splits in a few weeks. The only way to replace it is to remove the windscreen.

the quote was for the rubber 3 hours labour@£150 ph :(
 
I'm sure its a DIY. There is a thread either on this forum or one of the American ones. I was thinking of changing mine as its perished, thats where I found the thread when I googled it. From memory it pulls out without disturbing the windscreen. Clean the channel up and then put in the new one. I think they used some bitumastic sealant or black silicon to put it back in.

Might have been a 3 series they did it on but its the same idea.

He will remove and refit the windscreen with a new trim on it. An accomplished fitter and a great bloke.

I recently had mine replaced by a local Independent body shop. Cost was $20 for the labor to replace. Took them about 10 to 15 minutes to replace. They did have a couple of special tools that made it go quick.
