Windscreen repair.

Couple of weeks ago a small rock hit my front windscreen in the daily 5 series. Left about a 15-20mm diameter bullseye just above the passenger windscreen wiper.

Took it to a couple of repairers who all sucked their teeth and said it's too big and close to the edge of the screen. All said new screen with £75 excess. Now I've just made one claim (no fault) and didn't fancy another so thought I'd leave it and see what transpired

Then I spotted this ...

At that price it's bound to be rubbish but nothing to lose.

So tonight I've given it a go and hew presto, entire bullseye has gone, impact point is (almost) filled. Called my neighbour over to see if he could spot the repair, he's in the trade and couldn't.

So as long as it stays that way that's a result. And a deserved recommendation from me. (No connection to the product other that a satisfied customer)

I have the opposite problem. Whilst I have a similar sized chip out of my normal field of vision, when the Autoglass chaps looked at it they said they could repair it. I really need a new windscreen as it has a lot tiny chips and the insurance would pay for a new one if needed.

Anyone got tips for improving a "well worn" screen?

A hammer

I had a chip and insisted on a new screen over phone- they agreed and after some discussion even provided an original BMW one.

I didn't think a new windscreen counted as a claim on your insurance. You just pay the excess and that's it.

My repairer attempted to fill the chip but it expanded/cracked when he put a bit of pressure into it.

Unfortunately my current insurer (LV) has a £170 excess on Z4 windscreens (different excess for different screens/cars).

Do now have a very nice new (my 2nd) Pilkington windscreen & surround though

Exactly this. It's not a claim, though some require you to tell them about any windscreen replacements you've had.
