Windows XP Startup/Reboot

When I turned on my desktop PC, it took several times to complete the startup process. The PC would reboot and start again during the startup. It only started few weeks ago. Yesterday I had all files backup and formatted the hard drive. Someone told me it was the virus, but McAfee found nothing.

My laptop uses Vista and has no problem. Did anyone else have the same problem on computer with Windows XP?

The only time I had that sort of thing happening on an XP laptop was when the HD was failing and it could not read some key files from the OS so kept rebooting. No surprise it died and I fitted a new HD.

I'd suspect corrupt files more than a virus, but am by no means an expert on this stuff

Hit F5 at bootup and run startup in safe mode. If it boots, it could be a driver issue.

Try running AVG antivirus as well. Run either/both virus checkers in safe mode and echoing again what pvr said, if it boots fine there it could be a driver issue.
