Windows Tablets

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a cheapish less than 200 quid windows tablet, I've seen a couple with Windows 10 for 130-170 pound mark but just wondered if any good or would I be better going for Android at the price mark.

Looking at the Windows ones there seems to be very mixed reviews.

I had an original linx 10, very happy with it. Got the 1010b a year later as it's got more usb ports. Its can replace a full laptop if you need it to and outputs 1080p with no drama. Still need to sell my original linx 10 if you were interested - Gumtree has been full of timewasters.
 
Go android. Windows tablets are slow hateful things.

I have both and rarely use the Windows tablet as it is typical Windows like in speed, fine one moment, slow as a pig the next while it pages or updates or whatever. It also has tiny icons for some functions.

Android tablet (with less spec) is much quicker and usable.
 
Thanks for the replies, I had eyed up the Linx 1010B at Tesco but reading the reviews as Maniac mentioned it seems to freeze at times etc. For those that have used the Linx have you found this to be a particular problem? I would prefer a windows tablet as much as anything to see if I like Windows 10 etc as I'm looking sometime this year to replace a DELL XPS laptop which has Vista on it but would like to upgrade sometime.

The only issue I've had is the occasional hiccup with the Edge browser - but you can install a browser of your choice. I've never had hangups or crashes with video or other programs (office etc.).
A Linx tablet will happily replace your laptop if you don't use any resource hungry programs like video editing. If you're interested in trying the previous version (same internals just different ports) drop me a PM.
 
I have an asus T100T windows tablet, and cant fault it, even came with the keyboard dock (not a crappy bluetooth one a proper keybourd and touchpad mouse that it locks into) and would definitely recommend it. Even came with the full Microsoft office suite installed and not a demo version the full Microsoft office. Not upgraded to win 10 yet as windows 8 is working great so don't see the point.

But shop around a bit you may get one cheaper
 
I bought a linx 1010b to use in my mx5 for tuning from the little I've used it I'd say it seems alright. It's no iPad but then it's less than half the price.
 
Stick with android - was speaking to a few of the staff in our local PC World last night and they all hate windows 10 already! Went in for a laptop for my other half and came out with a MacBook Pro!!- d'oh!!
That's gonna eat into my zed modding budget :(
 
Thanks for the replies guys, I will certainly check out the Asus. Should I opt for Windows 8.1 or 10 or doesn't it really matter.

I've had my Dell XPS 17 for some years now but I'm loath to change it as its a lovely laptop, chrome and leather bound etc. Only problem I'm finding is Windows Vista isn't cutting it with certain websites like my Hive Heating which won't display all the data now which when I contacted Hive Support they've put down to me using Vista, although it's only just started to play up.

Is there any reason why I can't swap Vista for Windows 10? I've heard it's not possible on a pre-installed laptop, something to do with the drivers or the licence.

I thought I'd get a little tablet to keep me going until I can replace the Dell as they're not cheap to replace mine like for like.

Cheers for that, reason why I wanted a windows tablet was just to see how I got on with it before shelling out for my main laptop Dell replacement or whether to go Apple. Don't want to shell out and find I dislike Windows 10.

I have an iPad Air 2, and a Linx 1010b. Both great for their different things. At the £120 that I bought the Linx for, I can't really fault it.

I installed an earlier version of the wifi driver and I've had no issues at all with it since.

Highly recommended in my opinion.
 
Thanks for all your help, just ordered the Linx for £141 off Amazon so hopefully all will be good :)

I did have an iPad2 not so long ago but sold it :headbang: but I prefer one with a detacheable keyboard.

I have a linx 10... I almost never use it but I got a years office subscription off it which i do use on my desktop

The tablet is good for coding my car as it runs NCS expert etc being a full windows device.
 
Thanks for all the replies and advice, tablet arrived yesterday and just set it up. Immediate impressions are excellent, windows 10 takes a little getting used too and took me a while to find the screen rotate lock as annoyingly once docked to the keyboard it would automatically default to portrait :D Running speeds are quick and boot up time is pretty good too. It would be nice to have a backlit keyboard but at 140 quid its impossible to complain for what it offers. Nice that it does have an SD card slot to increase storage memory. Battery life after a few hours seems very good compared to my DELL XPS 17.



Feels very weird using 10" inch tablet then swapping to a 17" laptop.
