Windows Freezing Shut

I'm sure this has probably been done to death somewhere...but...

This evening we decided to hit the supermarket. Unfortunately, after a showery day, the windows were frozen shut. Not a huge problem - I just nipped inside, fetched a jug of warm water, and poured it along the window seals while the missus rolled her eyes.

Now every time this has happened before I've been at home. But then it occurred to me - what would I do if the car were parked at the station and I'd caught last train home? I suppose I could use nature's own warm water supply but that would be a bit uncouth.

Anyone had to deal with this? I may need it one day... :)

Frameless windows freeze shut, that's life. I had an E36 Coupe, same issue.

You just need warm water, nature provides you with a bountiful supply

I have just ordered some of this a few benefits are:

- Stops windows and doors freezing
- Protects rubbers from the UV
- Helps reduce wind noise
- Stops leaking rubbers
- Help nourish the rubber and extend its lifespan.

It has excellent reviews across the internet and detailing world so i thought id give it ago, it could also prevent your issue :)

Hope this helps

Product called Gummi Pflege is also recommend by a few members on here, I have used it myself previously. It appears to be more or less the same product as hopz121 has shared in the links to above.

Gummi pflege on all the rubber seals end of problem

Thanks Hopz121 - I'll keep that in mind. But as I have some Gummi pflege in the garage somewhere I'll try that first. I must admit, I didn't think it would prevent the freezing problem - I bought it to tone down the roof creaks.

all good [sensible  ] suggestions, and there is also

this multi-tasker

Gummi Pflege didn't solve it for me, maybe I didn't use enough? Used it several times as recommended on here but windows still froze the doors shut... I kept a 2 litre bottle of water in the boot (which doesn't freeze) for when i couldn't open the doors... Colleagues thought I was mad but they soon forgot that in the summer when the roof was down :)

Interesting. I know the laws of physics dictate that unfrozen water is still warmer than ice - but does it really thaw the frames quickly? I would have thought that chilled water poured onto a frozen frame would just freeze and add to the ice...? :?

Yes it definitely works - I'm sure it would re freeze in a minute but pouring over the frames then opening the doors always worked for me

Cheers all  . Hopefully between the Gummi Pflege and the water trick I should have it covered.

I just use a credit card to scrape a couple of inches of ice from the bottom of the window (enough for it to drop) then run the card around the frame and along (under) the bottom rubber seal.. seems to work every time for me..
