Windows 10

Two year old Acer V3-571G, i7, Samsung 830 SSD, 8GB Ram and Nvidia GeForce 710M 2GB Graphics with latest BIOS update. Still quite quick considering the 8+ hours usage it gets every day.

Installed on Thursday night without any issues. Clean install on clean drive.

Used the OS on Friday and Saturday I've found the following.

WiFi running at 144Mbps instead of 300Mbps on Windows 7. WiFi fails to connect on boot.

Windows Defender running by default which was killed off and modified the Privacy settings to make it minimum snooping settings.

Even before that was done there were over 1000 events in the Event Viewer in the System and Application logs over the space of 2 hours. More Blue Screens than I've ever seen since ME or Vista. Laptop hangs regularly for no apparent reason with little or nothing logged in the Event Logs for the hangs. Memory Management errors. Memory swapped and still the same.

Can only assume this is the test version that's been released with a shitload of updates coming in the September Patch Tuesday to fix the issues the OS has been reporting back to Microsoft.

Whether it's an OS issue or Hardware issue is now irrelevant. Have read there's been issues with Windows 10 Nvidia Drivers recently caused by the Microsoft driver but looks like Nvidia may have updated their driver to fix the issue they didn't cause!

Really past caring and I'm back onto Windows 7. No Blue Screens, hangs or errors! Will keep that until SP1 comes out although a new laptop is coming this week which will no doubt have Windows 8 although that'll be binned for Windows 7.

A disc had failed and my PC was away on its holidays. It returned with a Skylake processor, other new inner bits and also Windows 10. The only problem so far is the mouse does not work. A £4 one is working just fine. Spoke with Siatek and they hope to have the software updated in a couple of months. So that's in the bin now and awaiting a new mouse.

Enjoying it so far!

Had the same problem with Nvidia which wouldn't run the latest drivers but sorted now with a fresh install of the Nvidia experience

On the whole I'm liking W10

Still not got the download option on my Windows 7 Ultimate release desktop. Did all the updates etc, might have to download the image instead as nothing I do makes the icon appear.

I rolled back to 8.1 last night. On a Surface Pro, 8.1 just works so much better than 10 with the touch screen. Not to mention the constant high temps, not switching off properly, waking up and playing videos when it should be in sleep mode. It's weird how Microsoft don't know how to make it work on their own hardware.

Looks fine for a desktop pc, but not for a tablet style pc.

Ah - it's not just me then. I've put my laptop into sleep and on more than one occasion and I'd swear it's come back to life at some point not initiated by me.

I upgraded from win8.1 to win10 rtm on my surface 3 a few weeks ago, with no temperature issues, or similar to what Herminator mentioned

are you running the latest firmware?

One thing I noticed is that it reset all the USB power management so knocking the mouse would wake up my PC.

I've also notice that the graphics card fan frequently spins up for no reason I can pick up on. Other than that, I really like it

Bought two Microsoft Surface units, 1 upgraded easily and was fine. The second one was a right pain to upgrade - took forever, had to run fixes on it etc etc. How can two units coming straight out of the box be so different …

Those Surfaces do get hot though - in the dock they are too hot to touch at time and blow an awful lot.

I checked the status of mine and got a message saying that because of the demand they are staggering invitations to download the software :(

Although it doesn't want to seem to install win8 upgrades right now - keeps failing and uninstalling them, I am vexed and confused by this :x

I never got that far … still looking for even the option to register :)

Just download it manually

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago and had no problems so far. My laptop actually seems to be using less CPU then it did running windows 8.1. Haven't tried any development tools like visual studio yet though so that will be the big test for me. So far so good though I'm pleasently surprised.

I'm now on W10 - upgrade went fine - except for a problem with outgoing [Google] mail via Outlook, which was quickly fixed by Mircosoft.

BTBH unless you have a PC/LT, and a Tablet, and a Windows [i.e. Nokia] Smartphone [for which W10 will be available "soon"], use all the bells and whistles, stick everything in the cloud so you can access it from wherever, it's probably not worth it.

Except it's free, and you can configure it to cut out the cr4p, and to look like the "good old days"
