Window Tint

Each to there own about tints, some like em, some dont...I think my car looks better with! Something about the contrast of dark and bright colours (black and yellow ;))

In which direction is the light transmission tested?

For instance, if I was to fit some sun-blocking tints in a mirrored style, they'd only block 10-20% of the light, but 90-100% of the UV, thus making the car cooler inside.

From the inside I could see very well, but from the outside you'll see a brassy reflection. If they measure from the inside out then it'll show a pass, but it will fail in the other direction.

Also what if you stay away from tints completely and use the new posterised vinyl effects - like the adverts they have all over the side of buses which cover the windows but you can still see out of those same windows.

I see what you mean, but no idea LOL! Maybe has to pass both ways?!

But yeah, tints do look darker from the outside in!!!

Hmmm, I'm just thinking of the fun you could have with graphics on your windows... :D

I'll be tinting my van windows (well, as soon as the panels are cut out and replaced with windows) but I'll want a legal tint on the front side windows too to avoid a "all on the back, nothing on the front" look. I should really stop in at my local tint place but keep forgetting...

It's the amount of visible spectrum light passing from the outside to inside which of coure represents the ability of the driver to see out. (eyes receive light not transmit it)

It's measured by a meter placed on either side of the glass and is carried by police forces. The cost of this equipment is the reason it's not in the MOT test.

The strange effects you see of appearing darker or lighter relate to which side has most light on it. There are some great bus advert decals around that cover the panels and glass. From the inside they are transparent.

It looks just as stupid driving with the top down and un-tinted windows up. When the soft-top is down, windows should be down.

Agree on that one unless its a long long journey and cold and as for tints not a fan sorry would leave well alone

Same here. Windows up in winter, with roof down.

In 3.5 degC temps, windows down = frozen to death, windows up = enjoyable sun on body but warm ish, roof up = boring.

Fair do's in summer, but windows down in winter?

Dave

No point starting a new thread...

Anyone got their windows tints.. Perhaps if you do, can you post some pictures?

Simon

Here here... I do not understand why on earth people drive with roof down and windows up?!

When it's minus feckin 2 degrees I still like having the roof down, but the windows up helps keep me warm enough to stand it LOL

x2 - with not seat warmers!
(although maybe not -2 degrees either)

Tint Question

When you had your windows tinted, did they have to take the door cards off?

Mine were taken off. They can be done without doing this but the guy who did mine finds it easier if he takes them off.

i have a limo tine on the rear window, and i believe it was 15 or 5 on the two side mirrors.
rears look sexy , and matches my jetblack Z . reason why i went for lightest tint on the sides are ya.. basically tickets. i have a roadster so those are my only two side mirrors. If you have coupe get limo tint on your small rear side and 20% on the front sides which happens to seem bit lighter according to darker ones.

also looks still good with top down . blocks very very dangerous California's UV
