Window stuck open

Hoping for some advice re my Z4M Coupe (2007 model). I have no knowledge of such things (as you can probably tell by my username and the way I phrase things) but have been asked by the person who will be trying to diagnose the problem to see if anyone on the forum can help and save some time.

I recently opened the driver's side window all the way down but it wouldn't go back up. I tried again when the car had warmed up a bit, also stopped the car and turned the ignition off and restarted, nothing worked. I had a rather cold journey home.

I left the car on the drive while I tried to contact someone for advice, it was there about two hours. I was advised to try it again now that it had been standing for a while and to do so with the engine running. At first the window wouldn't move, I slammed the door as advised then after a couple more goes the window went up.
This wasn't the first time the window had stuck, it happened last winter but raised shortly after I started driving. After that it was okay until this recent occasion.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem? Is there a reset procedure?

Would be grateful for any help.

(or it could be the window regulator/dodgy switch/other electrical gremlin now reaching its 16th birthday)

Definitely sounds like a dodgy electrickery thingummy rather than a mechanical issue.
I think I'd be inclined to swap out the window winder motor.

I had this happen (regulator failed) on an E90, where it was a known issue. Sounds similar to me

Nice try Inkey, it might be an old one but I've been given a good idea of it's worth. :)

Thanks enuff_red and RATK47.
