Please can anyone tell me if anE89 windbreak will fit an E85? I have an E85 but see lots of E89 ones listed on Ebay

I am interested in the black mess one which fits into two gutters between roll bars. Thanks
 
I don't recommend getting a windbreak. My car came with one, but I haven't fitted it for years - doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference to wind noise/turbulence at speed, but it does reduce rear visibility and doesn't look that nice. Don't forget that on top of the cost of the mesh panel you will need to get the rest of the kit (new roll bar covers with channels to fit the panel, storage holder for in the boot lid). There is also the pair of perspex covers that come with the kit to fill in the roll hoops - these stay in when fitted - so I have never taken them out and therefore have no idea what benefit they alone bring.
 
...... whereas I find the OEM mesh screen makes quite a difference and I don't bother removing it even with the roof up, but agree it restricts visibility a little :)
 
I believe the thread creater is talking about an oem one, not the gimp outfit.

I leave mine in place all the time. if you think it doesn't make a difference then you're either going too fast, leaving your windows down or are too tall for the car.
 
The oem windbreak makes a massive difference to me. I removed it when i first got my car as it affected visibility.... Roof down 60mph i cant use the handfree. With it in place 60mph can use the handfree!

Get used to it after a while and mines always in

Ermm, I'm quite short, and have the windows up and the seat set low too. So I must be "too fast" for my OEM mesh panel then!

I think that the Z4's trouble is that the side windows have a very curved rear edge (when viewed side -on), so the wind spills round into the area of the occupant's heads and creates the noisy hair-raising turbulence (that's not a problem for a baldy like me, but it is for the passenger!). A very long time ago I had an MX5 and that had side windows that were flat along the top and the corner of the glass and the rear edge was behind your head, meaning that the turbulence was too. The Mazda had far less turbulence/ wind noise at speed.

If I had bought my Z4 without a windblocker and then decided to fork out a couple of hundred quid for a blocker and all it's fittings, then I would have been a bit gutted by the (lack of) result.
 
Hope I've not shot myself in the wallet with the above posts...

One day I will trade-in my Z4 and all the extra bits and bobs will go on EBay.
Hope I haven't permanently damaged the residual value of OEM mesh wind blockers - that'll teach me a lesson!

I asked this question a while ago as a friend had an OEM mesh E89 windbreak that he didn't want, and I wondered if it would fit in my E85. The answer is that it does fit between the roll-bars with about a 4mm gap each side, which is too narrow for the windbreak fittings you can buy. In the end, I used some black 25mm foam automotive tape to attach the windbreak unobtrusively to the roll-bars. It's been a week now, and even with some quite "spirited" driving (in the interests of quality control, of course), it hasn't budged.
