Wind noise - dealer says normal... I disagree, you?

Ya, they tell you it's a normal noise, I drove one off the showroom floor and it was quiet as could be. We tried the dollar bill method, it came out easy, also put white washable marker on the rubber part and you could see where it wasn't hitting, that's when the BMW rep finaly said "order the parts". After a while the noise still came back. I get a few drops in mine too.

So, everyone buying another Z who have had problems raise there hand

I just got her back (Valkyrie is her name BTW) from the dealer for the second time for this issue. It was better this time, but the whistling is still there. I wouldn't be so picky about it but it is rather annoying at speed (+65 mph). The service rep made the situation worse when he said all Z4's do that including his MZ4 and his tech's 07 Z4 3.0si. That's great I told him, but it hasn't done this in any other Z4 I've ever been in or in any other convertible I've been in except a Sunbird and a Sebring - both were POS.

I don't know about you all, but I don't really like it when a service rep tells me I am hearing things or implies that I am ignorant. I've been a service rep and a mechanic before - their work isn't hard and being rude is not a job requisite. I can only hope I wasn't perceived that way by my customers back in the day.

That's exactly how they made me feel, like I was annoying and stupid. It was embarrassing when I had to take it in for the same problem and it is still is a problem, even though they changed the rubbers 2 times and BMW rep heard it. When I call to make an appt, I'm sure they say "Oh no, not again". We arn't very close to a BMW dealership, so it's my time, gas and mileage.

i had the same problem happen to my z. the dealer said they shimmed the seal a bit, thus now no more noise. i plan on putting some sort of dressing on the rubber seal to condition it.

mine came back from this (post above about it going in) and the very loud whistling from the passenger side was fixed.

however the driver's side now whistles and it didnt at all before... its a huge amount better but now the noise is in my ear instead of louder in my passenger's.. reading this, maybe it will go back in afterall..

Naaa, you'll always hear that annoying noise & they'll always tell you "it's a convertible, you'll have that", instead of trying to help find the real problem. Contact BMW of NA, or of Germany. :headbang:
