Wind deflector

Genuine mesh is the best. I tried a perspex one and it made it worse in the car rather than better!

This seems to be the consensus. The mesh was designed to allow some wind through and prevent buffeting that you get with a solid deflector.
Having said that, I have read comments from those with the acrylic deflector (on an E85) that don't have a problem. I have never tried the acrylic one so can't comment on the difference from my own experience, sorry.
YMMV as the Americans say...

It's also not just a flat panel. It looks like plastic surround has been designed to keep wind/turbulence out of the cabin.

Many thx.
That's what I thought. I've a mesh wind deflector on my old Scimitar GTC but I've never seen a perspex one available to compare.

But you still get some turbulence even with factory fit, because the curl over is in front of the mesh. It really needed to be between the head rests to do any good. After much experimenting on my MGTF this is the arrangement i made using perspex.
Also the gap between seat and rear deck needed blocking as air would flow down the back of the seats.
It would seem a similar arrangement might work on the Z.
I thought about cutting some perspex that could slip behind the headrests in the gap between head rest and seat back.
By the way i loved my MG, just the unreliability of the engine put me of it.

Hi,
2011 Z4. Was a wind deflector supplied as standard with a new car or an option?

BMW are just mean, on a car costing this much new and especially a convertible they should include things like the deflector parking sensors and folding door mirrors in the price they shouldn't be options! The price they want for new retrofit kit now is just ridiculous! Sorry rant over!

:) Yep probably I think Audi are catching up with them now too. The way I see it, BMW are mean for not including such small things and on the other hand some who bought new were misers too I mean you spend 40 to 50k on a car and skimp out on package that cost what probably around 400 when new.
