Wind Block & Softtop

I have an '05 Z4 and also have the BMW mesh wind block (wind screen).

Does anyone have any experience with leaving the mesh screen on year round?

If yes, do you see any wear on your soft top? I would like to leave the mesh screen on all the time, since it's a pain to take on and off, but I am concerned about wear on the soft top since it rubs the top edge of the roll bars/mesh cover... as the top goes up and down.

Thank you for your comments.

Mine is left on all year round, but it doesnt touch the top as it's lower than the rolover bars

same, the roll bars touch the roof and the wind deflector sits well below, mine is also on all the time

i have a 53 and there is no wear at all from the hoops..... i wouldnt worry about it.

it does make it a little harder to look backwards at night though!

Are you by chance referencing the wind mesh that pulls down over the top of the 2 roll hoops as I cannot see anyway that the clip in centre version can touch the hood?

As a response I would not leave anything on the hoops that touched the soft fabric inner as it will wear out and some have complained of holes wher it rubs just the hoops.

+1 here.
Took it off once.. put it back on and left it on. doesn't touch the roof at all in mine.

Mine is the BMW clip in mesh screen. I take it off and store in the boot whn I'm doing a lot of top up driving as it does hinder the rear view.

I only take mine off when I - ahem - affix my deluxe hard top for that "better than the coupe" look...... :P

and my soft top doesn't interfere with the roll hoops at all...... :o

WOW!

Thanks everyone for your quick replies! Yes, I am referring to the Mesh wind block that slips over the 2 roll hoops... looks like this version does need to be removed prior to putting the top back up. It does rub the top, so would cause wear...

Looks like I will be selling this version and buying the one that sits in-between the roll hoops and lower that the top.....

Thanks again!

Be prepared for a big bill though as you have to replace the rollbar covers I negioated mine in the deal when bough the car but agreed to fit myself, think it would have cost £250 IIRC for 4 x new covers and mesh kit, the storage system for the boot is also an additional £10
