Will these wheels & tyres fit OK?

Here is the 265, 40 section
Looks OK from that angle to my untutored eye.

(No worries on the change of topic for a couple of posts.)

Having taken away some of the shadow around the wheel, it looks like there was a fair bit of clearance from the wheel arch? :?

exactly. and it still felt it would rub. i can only give you my opinion on this as i didn't actually drive the car.... if you can get away with a 40 section your ride would lovely... but from what i saw and the clearance it would rub, the tyre was protruding out the fender line. I've had numerous wheel setups on this car over the years and this was the one that i would call too close for comfort, however i was never going to run this size anyway, i purchased the wheels and this was the tyre the came with, the car only ever sat on them while i waited for my slicks to arrive, it never turned a wheel on these, the front 245s actually DID contact on full lock ( the plastic fender, but it was minor), i could physically see that as my partner turned the wheel lock to lock, again no damage was done as this was purely a static test to satisfy my own curiosity.

whatever your choice, good luck!! and keep this updated!!

Just to add - I used to run 265/40 rear MPSS on stock 224s. They were dubbed "balloon sidewalls". They didn't look great and on track, under heavy cornering they would rub the inner wheel liner. That's with stock 224s, stock suspension, Eibach springs and a CSL geo.

You can see there how soft standard suspenion actually is under duress.

Just as I thought.....

With my offsets those would cause some conciderable damage under the same conditions.

Thanks for the inputs guys, but now I have another question as, if I go with 235/40/18F & 265/35/18R, Michelin do not supply Pilot Super Sports in those sizes in the UK / Europe!

So, what tyres should I order? Eagle F1 AS2's, Pirelli P Zero, Vred Ultrac Vorti or Michelin PS3 seem to be options that are available.

This is where you need m-five or the like, he's done many miles and tried quite afew different combinations, This really isn't my expertise, i can help with semi slick selection but not so much road tyre. On my TTS i ran f1 AS2 ad they were very good, and had a lovely thick sidewall and great rim protection.

I have literally 10mins ago just bought Goodyear F1 ASYM 2 for my new alloys. 265/35/18 & 235/40/18. I have heard very good things about them so looking forward to trying them. To be perfectly honest, don't get too hung up on road tyre choices. Unless you are driving your car right on the ragged edge on road (I hope not) or you plan on doing a few Trackdays, then I very much doubt you will notice any difference over the Supersports and other "premium" sports tyres with good reviews. I liked my supersports but I am not in the 'the are the best tyre in the world' camp.

I may actually be able to go with Michelin PSS's after all as I emailed Apex Raceparts about tyre fitment and got this reply:

  • Thank you for your interest in our wheels.

In stock form, the 18x8.5" ET38 ARC-8 front with a 18x9.5" ARC-8 rear would be the proper fitment for a Z4M Coupe, and would have a flatter front and a concave rear. The proper tire sizes would be 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 for these wheels.
I believe that those sizes are available in PSS's, so perhaps that's the way to go, although it's all a bit confusing to be honest.

Now I can't decide whether to go with the wheel manufacturer's tyre size recommendations in MPSS (I keep thinking that they should know, right?) or to get the 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 tyres either as Eagle F1 AS2's or as Vred Vorti's. :?

With a standard suspension set up I would imagine you will experience some rubbing with a 245 tyre up front. Especially at full lock and under hard cornering. Have a good read of the ultimate wheel thread on Z post. You will get real life experiences from loads of people who have fun different wheels, offsets and tyre sizes. It will give you a good idea of what will work and what won't.

I have a set of Apex wheels, EC-7 (sizes - 18x8.5 ET35 on the front and 18x10 ET25 rear); tyres are MPSS 245/40 and 265/40.

I do get a small amount of rubbing on the front, but only on track - e.g. heavy braking, into dips that sort of thing; none at all on the road, however, my suspension is far from stock - Intrax 1K2 with quite a bit of negative camber.

Imagine if your alignment wasn't track biased. This would rub like a mofo.

Well, yes, quite likely, but I've never run standard suspension so don't actually know ...
