To be honest it was a bit of a shock,it is very red, but wifey said it will be fine. It's the first red car we have had, in 40 years of being car owners

Do like the look of the current generation of golfs

How do you feel about buying a new Diesel now the government have decided they don't like them? Are you worried you'll have to pay a fee for driving into cities in the future. My GF needs a new daily soon and I'm really not sure which way to go petrol/diesel.

Last week at work there was a brand new Golf sitting right next to an 16 year old Golf and there was not that much difference in external looks.
Im interested in the reason for buying a brand new car to keep the miles down on another car.
Is this to minimise depreciation on the other car?
Surely buying a new car and the instant depreciation throws any savings out the window.

The Golf is Contract hire, and such a great deal it was to good to refuse. 24 month deal 2k down 23 months at £97+vat of which I can claim half of the VAT back it's a GT so loads of extra kit

I do not drive into cities we always catch the train. Buying modern diesels holds no fear for me, look at my other car Discovery 4

One reason for having the Golf is so I do not have to use the Disco every day and pile on the miles, the wife can do the shops in the Disco After all selling a Discovery and it not having silly mileage makes it a lot more desirable.

Not slating anybodys choice in owning loads of vehicles, its great if you can afford to do so. We have 2 cars and 2 bikes between us and would possibly have more if we had somewhere to put them.
The thing that I don't fully understand is when its to stop one cars depreciation but ends up costing more in the long run.
Basically if you didn't buy the golf, in 2 years you could take almost £4500 less for the discovery even before the 2 years depreciation it would suffer anyway.

My wife had a Fiat 500 which was to small when she picked both grandchildren up from school. The Fiat was also a car I would not drive,so now we have the Golf I will use it sometimes for site visits, hence keeping big mileage of the Disco. My business is doing well and the Golf will be paid for through that.
