I'll just add a technical reason to the above points. Simply put it hurts traffic to the site. While Google doesn't have a public policy on penalising profanity I'm sure there is a hit if too much is found. Also, if people see profanity in the Google results they are less likely to click the link. Sure, the odd swear word gets used, in certain circumstances we let it go. What we really want to do is prevent the over use or inappropriate use, as it rarely adds to the conversation, offends some folks, and can cause issues for the site.
