Hi

I'm a new owner of a Z4 M coupe. I've all ready added a brace.

Thinking of buying CSL wheels but would like to know how it effects the ride and handling before I take the plunge.

Anyone help me out with a ride?

I have, Sheffield.

Saying that, not the best roads to test it on as Sheffield roads are a freakin nightmare.

How long have you had your car? I swapped mine within a month so wasn't really used to the ride on 18's. Saying that, I'd come from a roadster wit RFT's so it was comparable.

Handling is excellent for me, although it depends what tyres you get. I've got Goodyear F1's (love the tread pattern) and they've been great. Its not the comfiest ride in the world I'll be totally honest, but I'm happy with it.

Do you feel the car was bumpier when you went to the CSL’s?

The ride is pretty poor at the mo, only thing I don't like a about the car, came from a Cayman S with PASM, miles more comfortable

I can’t see the ride getting any better with 19 CSL regardless of which tyre I use??????

Cheers

The ride isn't going to get massively better with CSL's on. Best thing you can do is reduce the tyre pressures which should go someway to compensate for the harsh ride.

What are you running at the moment on your tyres?

That would increase fuel consumption and tyre wear though :?

I'd expect it to get worse with 19's on

I'm running conti's with the standard wheel at 32psi front and 30psi rear

Have to say, if you don't think its comfortable with 18's, you'll not like the 19's either.

To be honest, the difference is noticable, but not much, but as I say, I didn't mind the 18's. The tyre type info was based on the handling as opposed to the ride quality

Thanks Senwar

Nice to get an unbaised opinion

Think I'll stick with 18's and maybe go for PS2 when required.

Btw, do you know if the conti's are meant to have a stiff side wall, I think I read that some where on one of the forums, or maybe it was that the conti's are two generations out of date?

This car reminds me of my old TVR Tamora alot

If you want to have a ride in mine to finally decide, you're welcome to mate, if Sheffield's any good for you?

As for the conti's not sure myself (although I do have them on my original M wheels)

Why are you running higher pressure on the front's? Should it not be slightly higher on the rears?

Why not try 28 front and 29 rear or if too soft 29 front and 30 rear and see if you notice a difference.

I know SteveD suggested pressures similar to this to help alleviate the harsh ride.

I think the ride with CSL's and PS2's is very slightly better than stock, it certainly isn't any worse IMO, I think there's a little less tramlining as well. The only downside is a fair amount of extra roadnoise.

If you would like a ride in a CSL shod car I would think there will be a few at Gaydon sunday.

Ok thanks for that.

senwar, I'll take you up on your offer when I get back from the 'ring', I'm off on sunday, to really see what the Z4 MC can do.

Pics to follow.

Whats/where Gaydon?
