Who makes the OEM BMW Brake pads?

Front pads will need replacing soon on my 35i. BMW branded pads are £120 but as with any OEM parts they will be made by someone else, branded with a BMW logo and marked up with BMW tax.

Would much rather buy a set for £50 and have the garage fit them.

I seem to remember seeing Textar mentioned but can't find the topic.

Either that or pagid.

Yeh Pagid were recommended by the local independent.

£40 for Pagid vs £120 for BMW branded Pagid or Textar pads.

I wouldn't care so much if it was a small markup like they do with spark plugs. But BMW are really trying it on with pads!

I just put Brembos on the front of the X6 for about £60 including the sensor cable from Eurocarparts after a 25% discount.

I have been told a couple of times that Pagid can squeak and my local Indy won't fit them. My preference would be Textar

Done a bit of searching and it looks like they are Textar. Not 100% but Textar seem to also make the pads for the E90 range.

Found this part: http://www.buycarparts.co.uk/textar/7689224#

Looks like it is exactly the same as the OEM part. May just order them and compare them.

Textar are an OEM supplier for BMW (Textar are actually part of TMD who also make Pagid and Mintex)

Jurid are part of Bendix and make after-market OE Quality brakes. ATE (Part of Continental Tyres) again are after-market OE quality.

Euro regulations prevent any pad sold for road use performing by + or - 15% differently to the original specification. So as long as it's a genuine Euro-stamped make there is little chance that you will actually detect a difference in performance between road spec pads, and any improvement in one area of performance usually requires a compromise in another e.g. fade Vs initial/cold bite.

But durability isn't the same as performance and some aftermarket brands have reports of breaking-up or material coming unglued from the back so it's worth doing a search before spending on supposedly up-rated pads. But you can't go wrong with any of the big names and I doubt an average road user can tell any difference between them in a blind test.
