Which Z4 for <£10k?

Hi Guys, great forum. I've been lurking the last week but thought it was best to start my own thread.



I'm looking for a new daily driver. My budget seems to offer either 2010 3.0's or 2012 2.0's. Plenty of 20i M Sports in this range but how will they compare to the 3.0?

Is the interior the same?

Are the MPG gains actually apparent in the 4cylinder engines? They seem to be 20% better on paper.

My A4 with the smallest engine gets between 20-25mpg in London so I take manufacturers numbers with a big grain of salt!


Ideally there would be enough budget left for me to upgrade the head unit to something more modern with Android auto/Carplay. I believe I need to be looking for cars with iDrive already to save some hassle? What other options would you guys consider essential for a comfortable ride? Heated seats, iDrive, sport seats, rear parking assist?


Ps it definitely has to be an auto! I can't go back to manual

I've only had my 30i for a week now but it's averaging 32-33mpg (according to the display) on a commute consisting of 5 miles A/B roads, 13 miles fast dual carriageway, 2 miles town.

The BMW straight 6 engine was a bucket list thing for me so I never weighed it up against the 4 pot (although a guy at work has the 28i and rates it as an excellent car).

I don't know much about E89s, but hopefully someone can give you some insights. The only thing I have noticed is that heated seats are popular as they let you extend to roof-down season!

While the 4 cylinder ones may offer similar performance to the 6s as well as better economy and cheaper road tax, I'd rather have a 6 because they are getting rarer all the time - and they sound much better! Even Boxsters only have a 4 now. :(

I was going to say I've heard good things about the 28i. a standard remap will make is pretty quick. I've just got back into a 35i. if you can, I'd recommend saving a bit more and getting into a 6-cylinder. you're likely to keep it longer.
 
There are lots of good things said on here about the 4 pots after a remap. I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you more.

Would have to be the six for me though...purely for the sound.
 
I'd agree completely, but then you and I have the same issue!

If it's an E86 straight 6 is the only option - just whether it's a 3.0Si or an M. :lol:

I like the 6s so much my daily has one too. I'm currently in the throes of moving from an E91 325i to an E90 330i - more has to be better! :roll:
