Which soft top cleaner/proofed not Autoglym

Hi Guys

I know it's probably been asked many times and the answer is usually Autoglym but I have read that if you get it on the body or glass it is a nightmare to remove and no matter what I do to to avoid this I know I will get it on the body, so what other cleaner/proofed is a good one to use and one that is a little more forgiving if it hits the body or windows :)

Gtechniq, it's the best, water just sheets off it.

How many bottles of that do you need though - just the one ? If so, that's bloody cheap compared to Autoglym...

As for using AG, you just need some light dust sheets from B&Q to trap between the body, windows and windscreen surround. Bit of a faff, but worth it.

Thanks Carol but is that just the proofer? As I would need the cleaner as well, do they do one.

Thanks

Hi Bing it is probably too much of a faff for me :) I was hoping there might be a product as good without the faff

I think they do a cleaner too.
I bought the bigger bottle and used about half of it http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/interior-coatings/i1-smart-fabric/
I honestly can't tell you how good this stuff is, I won't use anything else.
I think Perry recommended it to me.

Thanks Carol i will bear it in mind but I would prefer something I didn't need to dilute and could use straight out of the bottle :)

Carol, is the 100ml bottle enough to do a zed roof?

I got a 500ml bottle and used about three quarters but I did paint it on with a brush and soaked it. You can spray it on but I wanted to do it a bit ott as I had just had the Boxster and wasn't sure if the roof had ever been done before.
You could probably spray enough from a 100ml bottle but I can't say for sure.

I have some AG stuff courtesy of inkey$ that I'll use first, but I may well try painting that on with a brush.

Used Renovo when I had Boxster. Also had the cleaner and some other stuff whatever it was. No need for cleaner waste of money. Just a bit of warm water and shampoo with a scrubbing/nail brush if it's bad. My roof didn't need much as no algae or c*** etc.. Let it dry then apply Renovo. Be careful not to get the patchy look. I did first time I did it. Brush on in continuous strokes in same direction all the time and don't dab as that can make it look uneven in coverage. Roofs do soak it up so don't put too much on brush at a time.

There is no magic bullet with this sort of stuff. It does get on paintwork and windows so keep tissues and rag for immediate removal. Maybe a faff but covering as suggested is perhaps advisable for the OCD sufferers. I recall some dried spots on windows which needed removal with a blade if allowed to dry.

+ 1 Great Product

I think the best all around stuff out there is 303 Fabric Protectant. I'm in the USA, and we don't really have Autoglym much here. I have tried their soap and wasn't impressed at all. However, I can tell you why I like 303 so much. The reason is, you can apply it with a foam paint brush and let it just dry. You don't have to spray it - so there is no overspray.

Just clean your roof well, pour a few ozs of 303 in a plastic cup - and start painting your dry roof. The stuff "self levels" - so it dries with no streaks. It lasts forever and is quite cheap. You can apply it as heavy as you like IME - it still dries perfectly. I use about. 8-10oz to do the roof of my M E85.

Here is a video I made of 303 on my M's roof. Keep in mind, this application of 303 was several months old when I made the video.

I'm sure the G Techniq stuff works well, but the 303 costs about $7 USA an per application applied quite heavy. GTechniq stuff is pretty costly.

That's interesting you saying roof cleaner is a waste of money, I will have a go tomorrow with shampoo and warm water :)

Thanks

Wow that looks great I will just wash it and then use the 303 protector :)

Thanks

Just remember that the roof is Protech protected as well ...
