Need to buy one before I wet sand the Zed, have seen thi, which gets good reviews on detailing world; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CEM-DT-156-Pro-Paint-Coating-Thickness-Meter-Gauge-Auto-F-NF-Probe-Tester-1250um/142419313659?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Anyone used one or have a recommendation?

TBH I'd just pop into a local body shop and ask to borrow their one for 10 mins in exchange for a beer. Take a sheet, write down the thickness around the car and then you're done.

Or get 9 people to chip in a tenner for that one and once you read your paint thickness you can pass it onto the next man.

I used to use one of these when I worked in the powder coating industry, after a while I could guess the depth of paint in microns fairly accurately just by looking at it :P

Good idea, but that's no good to me as I'm sanding, to see what's left, so to speak. Have just ordered one as it gets good reviews on DM, and for £90, it's cheaper than a respray!

Imo if people at DW recommend it then go for it ;) doubt anyone here will know as much as that bunch.

I have that one also. It is good and I bought as it was recommended over on te DW forum. What it cannot do is measure the clearcoat, it measures both paint and clearcoat but it does give an accurate reading of the amount of both on the car.

I dont mind popping mine in the post down to you to use if you want to cancel you order?

Thanks for the offer!! I've gone ahead and ordered it, as I want to "practice" on the Daughter's Ka first, not that she knows it yet!

You will need to calibrate it when you get it, its not hard (but I have forgotten how to do it):

The manual is here though (didnt get one with mine):
