Which discs?

Hiiii,

Speaking to Simpsons this morning they're telling me to use the Performance Friction discs instead of the AP Racing ones, to go onto my AP callipers, wondered if any members here have any experience of them? He says although slightly more expensive they are much better value, less likely to crack etc. Says they fit them to 99% of cars that don't have AP discs bundled in the kits, & says lots of folk swap to the PF ones once the AP ones run out.

AP Front Disc: £218.07
AP Rear Disc: £185.60
Performance Friction Front Disc: £236
Pagid RS29's £210 front & £170 rear

Anyone tried them?

when my AP rotors need changing ill replace them witht he AP floating setup, if we can crack the AP rotors i will be amazed..... stick with AP unless you competitly racing, youll never need anything more :-)

remember you only need the outer rotor section.

the PF rotors are properly awesome it must be said however ;-) completly floating setup also...

He was pretty insistent though.. saying that over time considering the neglible extra cost of £18 per corner they will last & are much better. I'd never heard of them so was obviously sceptical.

I think for me the AP discs are already overkill, so maybe not worth the extra, but Ben I might just get the PF discs so it's not the same as yours 8)

Let me get this straight - the rotors are the outer section of the disc - so as I have old AP fronts discs I could only replace the outer section ie the rotor?

Does that mean it would be cheaper than the £218 he's quoted.. I assume not :|

He also said apart from aesthetics he'd go with the OEM rear disc over the AP ones..

& btw.. sorry for another brake thread.. seems we're all at it atm...

A quick google throws up a few AP rears that have cracked/perished. For the sake of £18 per corner I'd go with their recommendation too. I'm not sure whether the price he quoted includes the bell section too, but I doubt it does. With regards to the rears that was the same advice I had and I stuck with it

Aesthetically unless you're really having a close look you wouldn't see the difference in discs. The only difference you can tell is the colour and condition of the bells on mine. I'll have to give the rears a proper clean up when I can be arsed

As for our cars looking the same, we'll have to just make sure we're never spotted together so keep your distance when we're on a meet :D
