ok ive decided i want a dashcam... ive done some research on here and found the fitting tutorial (great write up number5)

whats people thoughts on the 0803 or 0805 and the newer 0806??

i assume the 0806 is the newest but is it the best?? and worth the extra money?? (also ive read theres fakes?? how can you tell the real deal?)

also apart from the cam, would i need any extras to fit it, like 12v > 5v adaptors ?

thanks.

Just replaced my 0803 with an 0806 in my TT.... Mainly as it has always bugged me that the wiring is visible as the usb socket on the base is to the left, and i had to mount it to the left of my mirror... So hidden from my while driving (passengers can see it) guess to suit LHD cars.

The advantage is the 0806 can rotate more so i've managed to fit it so the usb socket is on the right and comes out of my light sensor..... So seamless now.

The base is a bit thinner/ but fatter and it takes 2 Mem cards.... Quality is the same in the day... Better at night... And i run it at a lower resolution but at 60fps... So makes it easier to read plates.

I got a little 12v to usb socket converter from ebay for a few pounds and a 3m usb cable to run it off the fuse box But on the Z i had a 12v to micro usb and powered it from the light sensor.

yea i did always see the wire going the left of the 0803/0805s which would have annoyed me so the fact it can now be plugged in on the right would defo interest me as the cables would annoy me lol!

what size memory cards does it support up to? and does it just fill 1 up then auto save onto the 2nd card then when full go back and auto save over itself on the 1st card (as such always have your previous x amount of hours saved until overide??)

would be interested to see some comparison videos of the quality if anybody has any (theres some on youtube etc but would prefer to see peoples on here  )

EDIT: Up to 256GB micro SD card support ( 256GB=2 x 128GB) but more info on how it saves for playback would be good :D

very helpful guy called Lee

having a look on that site it states some "features" of the 0806.... any ideas what is meant by "motion detection" and "parking guard" as im assuming wiring these to the 12v mirror/light input would mean there only powered when car is turned on.... is there some kind of in built battery(rechargeable while driving i guess?) which kicks in if car is moved or touched when parked up and ignition not on over night for instance??

For what it's worth at the weekend I bought the Nextbase 402G dash cam, it has 1080p recording, still images, motion detection, G force monitor, GPS tracking, I'm sure you can find the full spec on Google tho.
The quality of the recording is top notch, the audio is as good as you can expect too.
Word of warning though, for any dash cam only ever buy a class 10 SD card else a cheaper card will struggle to write the speeds required for the 1080p footage, resulting in a camera lockup or jerky torn footage.
I've no experience with the other cams mentioned here so I can't comment on any type of comparison.

To answer a few questions....

I have 2 64gb cards in mine (as its cheaper than one 128)... Which at the 1290 something resolution records about 16 hours before overwritting. It does record on one card first, when full moves to the next, then once thats full back to card 1... Which is a pain when trying to look at footage as i need to remove both cards to find the latest recording.

The parking guard is ok... Basically as soon as it detect slight motion it records... Should really use the hardwiring kit for it... So tap into always on power which measures discharge levels and once low stops charging.... But has a built in battery (all the mini's have it) and the battery lasts atleast 3 hours.

Also has lane departure... Its rubbish... I turned it off

And forward collision warning is good... Although pointless...

Dont see the need for 256gb... As that would be like 32 hours of footage!! Maybe if the cost of those cards come down in price.... But at the moment 64gb is only around £20!

being realistic you only need 10 mins of footage lol

i am hoping to record to good footage whilst o the england/wales meet sunday

looks like i need to look into and purchase a 0806 then, so if the in built battery lasts 3 hours, surely thats enough charge to run itself over night and record anything motion detected and then recharge itself on the morning drive to work, mines a daily driven so wont ever be left for more than a day or 2 to recharge

If you OK with a soldering iron you can mod the supplied adapter.

I shortened the connection to the cam and added two wires, for earth and one to connect to the white/purple wire in the mirror housing for the auto wipers.

Double sided pad keeps it all in place secure.

I was looking at dash cams a while ago but I decided to buy a Gopro instead, for longer trips I've added a 5v cable next to my rear view mirror.

My 2 are more for day to day recording, just in case scenarios. You dont need to remember to switch them on or off, they just work.
