Which brake discs and pads for E85?

Hello,

Newbie here, so apologies if I'm not posting in the correct manner, this is only my second post as I usually use Facebook, but can't get the answers I'm seeking there.

My 2003, 3.0se needs new discs and pads all round, but I don't know which brand to get because everyone in the Facebook groups give conflicting advice.

I would like to put on my car whatever it would have had when it left the factory, but no one can tell me what brand that is.

I DON'T want to upgrade. I don't want drilled or grooved discs. I am not going to track my car. I do 4,000 miles a year max. I'm after what was originally on the car, not what you think is good.

My car is about to have a whole lot of work - wheel refurbishment, caliper refurbishment, 4 wheel alignment and the guy doing it says he wouldn't use anything other than Apec discs and pads.

Zed Shed who do everything else on my car reckon Apec are "cheap and nasty". He's not said what he'd use, but a couple of years ago he put Ferodo pads on the front.

So what do I buy please?

Thanks

Put your reg into euro car parts and pick whichever ones you can afford.

^^This, or use Autodoc if you don't mind the wait. They often have big discounts just a matter of waiting for the right deal. I bought a full set of Brembo discs & pads last year & you get a choice of plain, drilled, grooved etc. whatever suits.

I would of guessed (appreciate that's not what you want!) ATE - they are the OE for the Z4M discs I think.

What I can say is that the genuine part isn't guaranteed to be the same as the factory one - ESPECIALLY if you buy a BMW valueline part.

Apec are the cheapest (well maybe joint cheapest with Eicher).

They wouldn't be something I'd chose to fit, but I had some on a RenaultSport Megane I had and they performed fine, but did squeal. I replaced them and it went away - not super scientific as I didn't try cleaning the existing ones up first.

I’d imagine that BMW have used several different OEM manufactures over the years. They certainly won’t be anything high end.

Always compare prices between Europarts and their web only sister site Carpart4less as they usually come out cheaper than the same brands on Europarts. https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/brake-discs
I have used Eicher and Pagid brands in the past and found them to be ok.

Thanks for your reply. I rang Mike at Zed Shed and he recommends Jurid discs with Textar pads, which is what I have seen said elsewhere.

Guy recommending Apec wanted £331.83 for them. I can get the Jurid/Textar mix for £200.

Thanks again.
