Which BMW seats will fit in a z4 roadster? E46 possible?

Im looking to buy a z4 and ideally want m-sport seats but I am realising this is narrowing my market massively. So I got thinking, why not just buy a good example with standard seats and fit an upgraded pair myself?

Looking on ebay there is loads of potential seats to buy relatively cheap, but can anyone confirm for me what cars/specs would actually fit?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xm-sport+seat&_nkw=m-sport+seats&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Has anyone fitted anything other than z4 seats successfully? E46 330 seats any good?

Scrap that question guys! I have just done a search and this has been asked plenty of times before. Unfortunately there has never been a definitive answer!

Asked it myself when a newbie & 2 years on i still haven,t seen a Z with any different BMW seats other than Z4 specific ones .
I found the sport seats looked great but didn,t do it for me on a comfort level

As above no other BMW seats will look right except the performance ones which are stupid money.

The seats in an e46 330 m-sport look pretty much exactly the same? Or close enough in my opinion.

They are a lot bigger and not so tall. Believe me they will look shite.

There is a picture on here somewhere with a Z4 with some fitted. Can't remember if they are the Sport seats or not, but you will get the idea if you can find the thread. From one of our USA friends IIRC.

I appreciate your input but has anyone actually managed to fit them and perhaps have pics? Everyones opinion is different!

Z4 look different, they also don't have seperate headrests.

But won't the e46 seats be much higher? (bottom seat to floor distance)
In my recollection you sit higher (from the car floor) in the e46 than in the z4.

Wouldn't that depend on the mounts? Sure you could do something to adjust it.

As I said someone has done it and there are pictures on here. I've had a quick look but can't find them.

TBH I think your only option is to try it because AFAIK nobody else has tried it.

You might try and PM blacksapphireZ and see if he can email you some pictures as I'm sure it was him. He hasn't been on the forum for some time though (over 4 years)

The E46 ones would be great but they are twice the thickness hence why they are more comfortable ,
maybe ideal if you are one of Wonka,s oompa loompa,s :D l

I have fitted after market seats in my car. The main issue I found was width - the Z4 cockpit is extremely narrow and very few seats are narrow enough to fit properly. Even the Pole Position which lots of people seem to like, is in my view too wide and unless you are very careful (and limit adjustment) it will foul the door.

Those seats don't have the seatbelt guide... Which may be a blessing as that sodding guide just sits the belt up against my neck... In an accident I will probably sustain some sort of laceration/neck damage

May e some from one of the convertibles?

Your two photos are both of E46 interiors, that's why they look similar  Here's a proper comparison:

The main differences are the width, base size and back size. They are tiny in comparison. You can always buy a car without sports seats and fit them later, just budget £500-£750 to do it.
