where to mount my blooming satnav!?

Hi,

I have a tomtom satnav, and bought a magnetic mount that was recommended on here. Basically I have a little sticky disc to stick somewhere on/near my dash. But I can't find anywhere!

To the right of the business CD there is some clear space, but then the satnav is hidden by the steering wheel. Left of the CD is too far away to see. everywhere else seems to be too bumpy or obstructing something or stopping the charge cable being attached properly.

any suggestions? Pics of your install?

Window mount seems not practical as its so far away..

Window mounting is fine for me (using the original mount that comes with the latest TomTom One). I've been using it in the middle of the windscreen as low as it'll go, but just figured out it'll sit nicely to the right of the driver next to the pillar. Cable can be routed/tucked away under the steering column, a lot tidier than having the power cable draping down ove rthe radio.

I can reach it fine in both those locations. Obvious bonus of having it in the centre is that my passenger can do the button pressing rather than me...

I use a vent mount sited on the right hand side centre vent...

I have a picture somewhere if it would help?

I have a Garmin and use the window mount. Just put it as far forward as I can. I don't change it while driving so it doesn't matter if I can reach it easily or not while on the go.

I've had my suction mount fitted to the piano black dash before now and it works well at night when you're just using it for spoken directions & camera warnings as the screen is out of your eyeline.

The rest of the time it's either mounted on the windscreen, between the pop-up screen and steering wheel...

...or in the corner between the steering wheel & A-pillar...

I found the air-vent mount rattled too much for my liking and I didn't think the movement that it allowed would do any good to the vent (although it might have been down to the way I fitted it).

got it off ebay - I will try and find the ebay shop I used as it was a while ago...

ebay seller was save4com, similar item: TomTom Vent mount

Under the dash there is a removable cover, I assume for access to the wiring. I stuck ths disc to that then the suction pad to the disc, so it sitd alongside the gear shift and the ashtray lid is behind on just clears the back of the satnav (Garmin)

that sounds a bit low TBH...

Brodit mount ....comes in two parts
Car specific the Z4 bit fits (non destructively ) on trim next to Aircon direction rotor switch
The second is a product specific plate which screws to the car mount
Very neat and natural looking
Have them on both cars and just switch the Garmin H/U

Maplin had these.

Garmin nuvi. Stuck the smooth disc under the dash above the ashtray. Wire coiled up goes right into the socket and there is room for the lid up

I saw a method that might suit. It was a cylindrical plug that fitted into a cup holder. The suction mount of the sat nav fitted to the top!
At last a proper use for a cup holder!

If my car didn't have built in sat nav, I would certainly give it some consideration.

I use a Garmin Nuvi (same basics as a Tom tom) and I mount it on the windscreen next to the door pillar. works great there, doesn't block any roadview and is easy to see while driving without looking all around the dash. I tried the vent mounts and didn't like the vibrations, seemed a bit flimsy. I've used the same mount in my Z3 and M3 .

I also have a large flexible pad that moulds to the dash (sticks there without glue) it just sits on it, with a polished disc in the middle for the suction cup mount. Works great in my pickup truck. I think it was by "Rocketfish" from Best Buy (in the USA). Just did 6500 miles on bumpy interstates with it and it was great.
