Mounting a V1, Anyone? :P

Could you guys post pictures or any idea's where to mount a V1 inside the Z4 and make it look as clean and tidy as poss?
I found a few sites mentioning the Z4 Coupe, But the Roadster I haven't seen any installs

Do you have any pictures?
Im not worried about the wires, More about placement and ease of removal

I'm sure I'm not the only one with a heavy right foot

i have one, its tough for the roadsters because our top makes for a small rear window, so were pretty much stuck right in the center. we cant go high because the rearview is in the way...so i put it right in the center, then as high as i can so that the rearview mirror is not in the way...if you come up with any better ideas, share !

I am curious too. I have been looing to buy a V1, but I also want it to match the contours of the car if possible :)

V1 seems to be highly praised, but is it so much better than other models that allow for more discrete placement,
like this one for example?

One would think mounting antennas (or whatever magic they use) under the hood and bumpers
solves both visibility problems and would not enrage police if you still get pulled over for speeding as clearly visible detector might.
I am waiting for my coupe to arrive, and since rear visibility is rather limited, installing radar detector will be my first concern.
Any thoughts?

Right now, the top of the line is the Beltronics STi Driver Radar Detector with the V1 a microsecond behind it.

I am looking for a Radar Detector also, but since I live in VA where they are illegal, I need something undetectable by the Police. The Beltronics STi Driver Radar Detector is that model.

The V1 is a great model. In fact, in a rear looking scenario, the V1 may be better than the STi Driver because it has a rear remote antenna.

Shipkiller in your situation a discrete model is definitely better...but the bogey counter and and arrows on the V1 are a must have, IMO.

Theres also another site http://www.guysoflidar.com that do very objective tests.

and lastly, troggs, they would do nothing more than laugh at you for having one and still getting caught  i sure would

HOW ARE YOU GUYS DRIVING WITHOUT RADAR???

Good Site. Thanks.

I loved that ballsy guy who did the STi test on the Police car radar detector movie. I guess, the Beltronics STi Driver really can't be detected by the police..

Here is the context of our law in Va. :police:

§ 46.2-1079. Radar detectors; demerit points not to be awarded.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth when such vehicle is equipped with any device or mechanism, passive or active, to detect or purposefully interfere with or diminish the measurement capabilities of any radar, laser, or other device or mechanism employed by law-enforcement personnel to measure the speed of motor vehicles on the highways of the Commonwealth for law-enforcement purposes. It shall be unlawful to use any such device or mechanism on any such motor vehicle on the highways. It shall be unlawful to sell any such device or mechanism in the Commonwealth. However, provisions of this section shall not apply to any receiver of radio waves utilized for lawful purposes to receive any signal from a frequency lawfully licensed by any state or federal agency.

This section shall not be construed to authorize the forfeiture to the Commonwealth of any such device or mechanism. Any such device or mechanism may be taken by the arresting officer if needed as evidence, and, when no longer needed, shall be returned to the person charged with a violation of this section, or at that person's request, and his expense, mailed to an address specified by him. Any unclaimed devices may be destroyed on court order after six months have elapsed from the final date for filing an appeal.

Except as provided in subsection B of this section, the presence of any such prohibited device or mechanism in or on a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth shall constitute prima facie evidence of the violation of this section. The Commonwealth need not prove that the device or mechanism in question was in an operative condition or being operated.

B. A person shall not be guilty of a violation of this section when the device or mechanism in question, at the time of the alleged offense, had no power source and was not readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger in the vehicle.

C. This section shall not apply to motor vehicles owned by the Commonwealth or any political subdivision thereof and used by law-enforcement officers in their official duties, nor to the sale of any such device or mechanism to law-enforcement agencies for use in their official duties.

D. No demerit points shall be awarded by the Commissioner for violations of this section. Any demerit points awarded by the Commissioner prior to July 1, 1992, for any violation of this section shall be rescinded and the driving record of any person awarded demerit points for a violation of this section shall be amended to reflect such rescission.

in my previous car, i went through the effort of making it hidden, hardwired, etc. but in the end, you're going to get optimal performance if its dead smack in the middle of the windshield, as high as possible w/o placing it behind the tinted region. i don't even hardwire it anymore b/c the one or two times i did get pulled over (not for speeding, but lack of front license plate and other bs), i quickly remove the radar, clip and everything.
