Where is the negative terminal?

Found the positive terminal under the bonnet . Is the negative terminal the bolt next to the left suspension strut ?
 
Yes, assuming you mean on the passenger side - it should be in the manual, I double checked just to be sure.

What have you done?

I think you can use any earthed ( strut ) bolt for the negative as the Battery neg is bolted to the body
 
Probably not a good idea as some parts while they are indeed earthed and may be just fine for say a trickle charger, there may be issue with say jump starting where you want no resistance and high amperage. I've seen some horrors where things melt that are not well earthed or fried circuit passing current through them.

Strut bolts for instance are bolted onto a painted surface, so may actually complete the circuit through the shock and into the suspension, etc.

Given BMW provide a really good earth point I'd use it.
 
:thumbsup: Thanks Guys thats what i meant ........ going away for 5 weeks + so the Zed has been tucked away today on a Ctech battery management system and put it up on tyre savers.... not the easiest things to drive on to.



probably a bit extreme for 5 weeks but bit of a dry run for the winter.

ok. Never seen them before, not sure if I am keen on having to rev the nuts of a cold engine to get the car out of them (unless you jack the car up of course).

Sorry to revive an old thread, but the Zed has been garaged for 4 weeks during the bad weather. I was going to give her a run today as the snow has gone now, and although she started first time, it turned over more times than she normally does - so I guess the battery has run down a bit while it's been stood.

Following your recommendations of a Ctek 3600, I've been shopping around on the web and found this.

A CTEK XS800 will be cheaper and do just as well unless you want to charge from flat then it will take a while, but I have been using one for a year any my car only gets used a few time a month.

XTEK XS3600 just arrived !

Now, I'm as thick as two short planks in this area. I have read the instructions, and to me, it looks like I need to connect the red croc clip to the + terminal (obviously) but then it says connect the black croc clip to the chassis.

Do I not connect it to the - terminal then ?

Where on the chassis do you connect your black clip ?

In the user manual (for the Z4) there will be a section on jump starting the car. It'll have a diagram for where you should connect the negative croc clip to the chassis.
 
When you open the bonnet, there is a + terminal marked near the windscreen and a big bolt (negative) on the wing. Use those.
