Where is my pollen filter?

2005 M54 2.5 litre

Should have checked this first. Looks like it could be at the back of engine compartment under the windscreen wipers (but not like the pic I have seen of e46). Or is it under the dash like the old e36

behind the glovebox. (not like the e46 which is under the windshield wipers).
3 screws under your glovebox. remove, open the plastic tab, and swap filters.
 
Mine's a 53 plate 2.5 and the fuse box is behind my glove box.

Under the glove box I removed the tray in the roof of the footwell but saw nothing looking like a filter housing, just loads of wiring and what I presume was part of the heating.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Yes it is right up behind the glove box (on right hand drive cars).

£40 for the filter alone! Good job it is only on Inspection 2. I have a pic if anyone wants to see

A photo of the filter location would be very helpful.

If I drop the glove box down, the fuse box is behind it to the left, and a black metal plate to the right with the fuse card attached.

Mines a 53 plate, perhaps it hasn't got one, or perhaps I'm a numpty?
