Wheels...what to do?

I need a little bit of help with a decision as I just cant make up my mind what to do with my wheels. I currently have 108s on my coupe that for are corroded badly. Do I:

1. Get the 108s refurbed. Cost about £400 although prob need a new set of tyres in 2000miles.
2. Get a set of 18" CSL reps. Worried about whether they will look lost in the arches with offset etc
3. Get a set of 19" CSL reps. Worried that they will increase the ride height and make the ride harsh, but on the plus side will look the nadgers.
4. Go in a different direction with wheel choice as a few people have CSL wheels and I would like to be different.

The problem is that I dont know much about offsets etc and I dont want to get into problems with wheels rubbing etc and I find it hard to visual what wheels would look good and dont really know what effect changing wheel sizes has on the car.

Any tips, pics... etc would be gratefully received. Plus you get to show of your motors again.... :wink:
 
I would either get the 108s refurbed or get something different just stick to the correct offsets as its not just rubbing issues you get if your offsets are to far out
 
i also got rid of a set of corroded 108's. i basically read through the guides on here and sold them for £500, which to be honest is great towards a new set of rims.

As for size, in my opinion i think 18's can make the car look a little under-wheeled, and might not give the ultimate look your after and you may end up a bit dissapointed.

I went for 19's as i wanted that big wheel look and i combined it with a slight drop giving an perfect stance and great visual appeal. As for the ride, it is better than the 18" runflats that i used to have on the car, were as i am guessing 18" non run flat tyres will give you an even better ride.

As for after market wheels, yes CSL's look the business and i almost went for them but so many people seemed to be buying them and therefore going to become common, hence why i went for something completely different. VMR's seem to be a good wheel and are a slight variation on the CSL's. In my opinion stick to something multi/cross spoked rather than say a flat 5 spoke, as i think it keeps it looking more OEM and suits the bmw style better. I also think its good to go for a wheel that shows of the staggered setup with the wider rear wheel.

i am sure you will get many opinions on this, but i hope that helps !
 
I got rid of corroded 108s too and got 203s :D

Figured even with a refurb, the 108s would just corrode again and need another refurb not long after etc...

Just one comment in respect of point 3. The change of wheel size will not itself affect ride height
As you increase the rim size by 1" (in effect 1/2" radius) you decrease the tyre profile in an equal amount. You therefore end up with 1/2" more rim and 1/2" less tyre wall. Worse ride as less sidewall, but same overall size

If you don't change the tyre profile you affect the final drive ratio of the car and then of course also the ride height
 
Where do you spend your time? In the car or looking at in?
Enjoy the ride on some lovely 17s from a Z or a 3 series plus nonRFT. :driving:

5. Just the last of the use out of your tyres, refurb the 108s, sell them before they corode again, and buy some 107s/202s as replacements.

Worked for me :D
 
I got my 108's replaced by BMW in March this year under the new car warranty.. however i got a little bored with them so recently replaced them with some 19" vmw 710's.. which after driving with them for nearly a week offer a better ride then the 18's RFT they replaced.

Also look much better, however even on sport suspension my car needs to be lowered to complete the 19" look.

I have kept my 108's boxed until i sell my car.. and hopefully they wont rot away in the boxes with air alone!
