Wheel locking nuts?

I've just fitted some to mine as for some reason they weren't there (even though they are on the VO!!) picked up a set from the bay of e!

If they're of a decent design (i.e. not susceptible to the key flexing or distorting) then I would say yes. Some insurance companies won't payout if you have wheels nicked where you had removed the locking nuts and replaced with standard bolts.

TBH I've never had any issues with BMW locking nuts; but the ones of my previous Saabs and Renaultsports were a nightmare

I had a locking wheel bolt shear on the X6 over a year ago.
The bolt was a bad design with the top section press fitted into the bottom section and a spinning ring around the join.
These were BMW bolts.
Luckily it sheared as I was tightening it and I managed to hammer the end back on and turn it back out.
I have replaced the lockers with normal bolts as I didnt want it happening again.

They are pretty pointless as there are lots of kits out there that are readily available to remove them without the key.

Its usually the first thing i do with a new car .......remove locking Nuts ........ :D

Removed mine not long after buying the car and fitted five matching black chrome wheel nut covers looks the dogs

They are probably enough to put of a casual theif but no more I lost the key to my OeM lock nuts on the ///MR. Took my mechanic about 5 mins to get the wheels off wrecked the nuts, so now I have some flea bay ones on.

You don't seem to hear of it or see cars on bricks much any more, so I don't think it's the issue it used to be.

But my current car didn't have any, so I bought a set of after-market ones on here a while ago just to try to deter the casual scrote - but I realise you can buy kits to remove them on E-bay so they won't stop anyone determined.

Still they give me a bit of peace of mind, especially as the wheels I've got now are listed as "No Longer Available".

This was a few years ago but shows that it might still go on.

 oh that has made my evening, hate Audi's.

Another thing this forum has helped me with. Panicked when I realised we didn't have it... But a quick call to local dealer and using just the registration number they were able to give me the relevant nut for £10.80 all in, same day.
