Wheel Bearing FAG part number confusion.

Hey all,

I need to replace my front wheel bearing and I'm struggling to figure out if I've bought the right part.

Would be a nightmare to strip the old one off and have it not fit, looking for advice before I crack on with the job.

I've bought: FAG 713 6494 00

Most of the compatibility checkers say this won't fit but others list the OEM part number as: 31 22 2 229 501, which is correct as per Realoem.

Anyone bought one recently that can advise/put my mind at ease?

I just replaced my front bearings but that long ago. OEM p/n 31222229501, FAG p/n 805387. But keep in mind I am based out of US so we may get different part numbers.

Before you install the new bearing, be sure to test the new one spins freely. I had to return one because it felt really gritty. After taking it apart I noticed bits of plastic from the cage that had broken off and become wedged in the grease.

Edit - I just looked up your p/n 713 6494 00 and see it is listed for the E46 M3 so it should fit.

Thanks, yeah I think you have different p/n to uk.

To save the next man a headache.

FAG 713 6494 00 is the correct part.
  • Inner Diameter [mm]:37
  • Diameter [mm]:139
  • Width [mm]:64
A quick check would be the two brake disc retaining screw holes, the suggested part only has one.
